I mean this is almost getting to the point where ya'll need to go to a Private Room with this!!
Ya know kola you dont have to read this thread if it bothers you so.
I am sure someone in your growing up life told you
" If you aint got nothing nice to say dont say anything at all"
PLease if you want to be nasty go back to PB and be nasty to me and leave soapweed alone on this thread.

LOL soap you have taught me at times its best to leave some things unsaid ......which I have done here. I am sorry someone can not let you enjoy people saying Thank you without making personal attacks.

Falling on our sword are we?????

Now...now...Sage...." Cowboys" don't like for " girls" to take up for'em!!!!!

You take and have taken a lot of pictures, some good ones too, and posted them here....anybody drooling over you? NO!!

I would have to say "thanks" to Soapweed for his cool approach to some things said on here. Thanks for showing good mental temperance when most including me would struggle.

Ya think maybe? :lol2: :lol2: :lol2:

One of Soap's best ideas, in my opinion, was to only own bulls during the breeding season. Seems to make economic sense, for sure. He about gets his cows bred for free when you take into account the extra cows fed with the hay or grass that would have gone into feeding bulls.

And I'm sure the guys selling him the bulls sure won't mind the yearly sale of breeding stock to a repeat customer!

I never intended this to a eulogy for Soapweed. It was meant to show our gratitude to a Fella that I enjoy reading about, and seeing the pictures that he shares with us all. Soapweed, I again thank you for sharing your life with us. Please don't stop and the rest of you all that share pictures, you too are admired by everyone. Life if is a learning process. When you quit learning from others you are pretty much a jerk that no one can stand to be around or dead. Then we all can right eulogies for if we still like you.

Well, I haven't posted here for a long, long time. Admitedly though, I check in from time to time and listen to some of what goes on.

I can't stand being on the sidelines for this thread, however and will try to express what Soapweed means to me.

I happen to know Soapy better than any of you. We are related, sharing the same Great Grandparents, but we grew up more as first cousins than what we actually are, second or third cousins once removed or whatever. We are not only related, but about as close as friends can get.

He's always been true to himself and while many of us spent an amount of time searching for our identity, he is consistantly the same guy I've known since we were little kids. He is very intelligent and has great common sense and instinct.

Soapy said it himself, he's somewhat of a geek. Yeah, but a wiser geek I've never met. If I ever need an opinion on something, I always think of him first and often bounce ideas off of him.

He is a "cowman" in the truest sense of the word. Most of us couldn't carry his toothbrush in that regard. He has an eye for cattle. For years, he has bought the cheapest bulls he could find but still has the best cow herd and sells as good a crop of calves that I know of. Only a genuine, honest to goodness cowman could accomplish that.

Oh, he & I have not always seen eye to eye and he is far from perfect. I could tell you plenty about his faults but he probably has fewer of them than any of the rest of us.

He has always had a deep interest in the old timers and history of our area and has a fantastic memory for those great old stories that were told to him.

What you have seen of him here on Ranchers.net is pretty much what he is like in person. What you see is what you get. He is not complicated and tells you exactly what he thinks. He has a keen sense of humor, while maintaining a strict sense of right and wrong. He's the kind of guy that I want to emmulate.

He has become well known for his daily dose of photography, depicting normal life on the Spearhead. His clever play on words make the pictures come to life and has caught the attention of nearly everyone visiting this website. However, before he invested in his little pocket sized camera, he made a tremendous impact with his ability to write. Many of you may not realize his talent as a wordsmith. Although I have not done it myself, I'm sure you could go back through the archives here, to see for yourself.

Even though I know he is uncomfortable reading all of this stuff, Soapweed deserves all the nice accolades he's gotten here in this thread and I wanted to weigh in on it myself. Boy, this has really evolved into a eulogy hasn't it? Sorry 'bout that.

Now, I think I'll retreat to my hybernation.

Nice to see you back. Say Hi to your Dad for me.I really enjoyed visiting with him your sister and Soap's Dad and sister the time they stopped in. You should come along with Soap and Peach on their next trip to Canada. :D

I'm not sure where it went .

Thanks for quoting it...so it's still in the loop!

This is quiet the ' love fest' though......

True so true, but the prolem lies in the fact no one is drooling all over kolo, she is not getting attention.
Therefore I will massage her ego and post!

Some people are worthy of compliments and some are not. Soap definetely deserves them. I would like to get to know him and his family and maybe someday I will. From what I have seen and hear, he is truely a good man!

The ones that don't deserve the compliments are the ones that can't handle someone else getting a little more attention than her. Maybe we should start a Kolo thread, and leave her out of this one, so Soap and his family can enjoy it.

Thank you, folks, for all the nice things said about me. JF Ranch, I especially appreciate your tribute. You and I have been through a lot together. I am three months older but you are catching up fast. We started kindergarten the same year, and went through our sophomore year together. After our local high school closed, we both graduated from different schools in 1970. JF and I have been to countless brandings, cattle drives, camping trips, auctions, family reunions, and other festivities together through the years, and we have survived the same blizzards and droughts. We have a lot in common and have always been best of friends. He and his family raise high quality commercial cattle using Charolais bulls on Angus and BWF cows. He also raises wonderful Quarter Horses that have fine pedigrees. Thanks, JF Ranch.

I've been to two funerals of two wonderful people in the past two days. This makes the kind words of all of you quite special because it is my pleasure to be able to read them while I am still very much alive and well.

I appreciate everyone on Ranchers.Net and have learned a lot from all of you. It is addictive, but is probably a better habit to become addicted to than many of the other habits out there that are available

Now I would agree with Kola. It is high time to close this thread and move along with the usual conversations of raising cattle. :-)

I've been absent for awhile and this was the first topic I opened when I saw it. Dittos to what most everyone on here has said with the exception to the wicked witch of the south.

Soapweed introduced me to this site a couple years ago when I took his bulls in to feed for the winter. I can't thank him enough for the introduction to all the good people on here. I only live a short distance from Soapweed as the crow flies but I never knew him that well. I am happy to have had the chance to get to know him better. I'm like JF ranch, it's good to be able to bounce ideas of a guy like him because even though you may not totally agree with him, you know you're going to get an honest answer.

AW......... whats the problem with an ole geezer gettin a few compliments kola ?
I wish everybody worked as hard as soap does keepin the board active.

Ok I have to comment I just have to it's my nature. It's funny through my father I've known Soapweed for a long time. You know your parents talk about someone and then all the sudden it's like you know them? Through that perspective I know he's a steward of his land, involved in the community church, goes to the bar buys drinks and yet doesn't drink himself, is nice to visit with, is into horse sales and talking horses, and above all very kind to my grandfather when they run into one another. He's a very pleasant man to run into in town and say hello to and a quick chat.

Here's the thing though through the internet which is so odd for me to say I've gained yet another perspective. He's a camara toater and if you don't watch out you might be an INTERNET STAR! I've kidded many I know that they are internet stars now thanks to Soapweed. I've also talked about subjects that had it not been for the internet I would have never known how he thought or he would have known I would have thought. We would have never discussed some of the issues we have here and some have been heated. I would have never known his views on homosexuals, abortion, democrats, Obama, McCain, and he wouldn't have known mine. Yet this one view i know has shaped the way we think of one another now. When what's so silly is had it not been for stumbling on to a site and strongly disagreeing over it I would have just had the opinion stated in the first paragraph.

What's the big deal with being a "INTERNET STAR"?

I remember when the internet and web site first started being used by school we couldn't put the kids pictures on the site or names. We might be setting them up as targets for pedophiles ect or parents hiding kids from other parents. But now days kids put pictures of every thing and everybody on networking sites if a stalker or pedophile is looking for somebody they have lots of choices.
