I went to help brand some fall calves a few days ago, over at a ranch I really like. I took the camera along for the trip, but I am not as good as Soapweed, so I didn't take the camera along horseback. So these will be scenery, and not cattle pictures.

Popping over the hill above town just before sunrise.

A couple taken looking north of the hiway.

These are from the road into the ranch, and the view around the ranch.

And it is probably the place in the Dakota's that Shortgrass mentioned (in his inspirationsal post) as having the strongest grass in the US. Of course those mud buttes don't grow a lot of grass, but the shortgrass country around them sure do. Just poking fun at you Pure Country. I got your point at humor.

It is not far cross country to the country Gus traveled thru. Less than 100 miles anyway.

I've probably posted this before but I can't remember. When we were kids a buddie of mine went for the summer to work on a drilling rig in eastern (I assume)Wyoming. I asked him how the girls were there, he said there's a pretty girl behind every tree.

You might not believe it Red Robin, but we have more trees in our country than girls.

I tried to take some pictures with trees in them for your sake. Aren't you the one that mentioned that before? There are several pine ridges in those hills. It is great winter country in that area too. Not much hay fed. The pine trees don't seem to bother much.

Ok I see that big expansive tract of timber there on the ridge Tap. It's your range that makes me jealous, not the trees. I have more sticks in the yard that you do on those ridge tops. I've heard some places when a big snow is on and you can't get the cows down or hay to them , they'll eat pine needles and abort. Ever heard of that?
