Well, I got back from a one day trip to Porcupine Plain trying to get my brother his first deer, and we found him one, haha.

We will start from the start. Monday- 5:00 AM. My alarm clock rings. I press the snooze button so I can sleep for another half hour. 5:30 AM I'm still awake. My brothers alarm has been going off for a half hour and he's still sleeping but I didn't want to get out of bed because its still cold. Grumbling I pull the covers off of me and pull a clean pair of jeans and a sweater on. I walk into Sheldon's room and shake him awake, and turn off the alarm. I go down the stairs, taking two at a time, and make the wake up calls. I start the truck and load the gear. Matt pulls up in his truck and him and Shaun move their stuff into our truck. We take off, but first we have to pick up Hillary. When we get to her place, she is still asleep, so we call her sister. She told us to take the key and go wake her up. I didn't want to wake everyone else up, so I was sneaky. And I mean sneaky. I was terrified I would wake her brother and he would shoot me because he assumed I was a burglar, not that he would, I just think like that when I just wake up. Anywho, I get up the stairs to her room and knock on the door. After a little bit, I knock again, so since there is no answer, I opened the door... She is gone!I quietly walk down the stairs, and I see someone close the bathroom door, and I freeze... and almost fill my drawers, haha. When she got past me, I snuck up behind her and poked her, she jumped, and I got a good slap... then she realized who it was and we were off... What a morning. When we get to our hunting spot, we split up and start walking trails. at noon we meet back at the truck. noone shot anything. We decided to go back into town and get some lunch. On the way in, I see a doe standing on a beaver dam. I get excited and we decide to shoot. We get within two hundred yards, and all three of us raise our rifles. I'm getting ready to shoot, and I pull the trigger... "click!" I didn't get my clip in all the way. I get it in all the way this time, and shoot. She freezes. Sheldon shoots, I watch her shoulder drop through my scope. Matt and Sheldon start tracking while I get to a clearing where I have a feeling she will go. I hear something running. she flies past me at six yards. I shoot again, and she drops.

Here's a picture of the brother and his very first deer!

In Sask. before you can get a hunting license do you have to take a hunter training course?

If so does Corey teach it? I'd for sure get some tips from him if he does.

congratulations, but how can it be his deer if hes not the only one who shot. personally i think the person who shoots and knocks its down is the only one who can claim that deer.

to each his own.

once again, congrats
I would have to agree. we have neighbor who brings in a crew that shows up every year for the late doe season, and it becomes a war zone around here.......

beer and rifles are not a real good mix!

Having 3 guys shoot at one deer is BS. The way this kid hunts makes me sick.

The first blood last blood rule kind of changes as to the situation-I've tracked down two really good bucks for guys and finished them and gave them both the deer. I've had a couple that I'd shot that were dead deer walking that a buddy has shot last and I gave those horns up too lol. The house is full of them as it is and most times it was these guys first time in on a big buck so whatever works. I was on a mulie hunt one time when a guy shot at a big buck-it ran up the draw to my other partner and he killed it. The first guy claimed he'd hit it and tagged it. There was only one hole in the deer though-it worked out for the best because the guy who gave up his buck shot a MUY Grande 207 incher later that day lol. I don't really care for a whole crew opening up on a deer at the same time-but once a deer is wounded it's best to get them taken care of quickly.

Yea I'm sure you're right. It would have been far better to let her suffer for much longer until the original shooter could MAYBE find her and finish her off. Remember they are kids and if the worst mistake they made was to end the suffering of the doe then I and most sprotsman would be all for that. Did they make mistakes sure, but that is part of the learning process.

Keep in mind they were not flock shooting at a herd. They shot at ONE deer and responsibly finished the job. Give these kids a break. I for one would rather see them out hunting and YES making some mistakes than hanging out in town, up to no good. The only difference for my family would have been to be with them as a mentor at that age. But, maybe their Dad couldn't do that because of other obligations.

WHSH, It was the forest. It was my little brother's second time. We didn't want to loose it. The third guy did not fire a shot, although he was ready to. By the way, I think you are sick. In the head.

3waycross,

Dad could not come because he was too busy with family obligations, but my friend matthew, is the most safe, smartest hunter I personally know. I watched him pass on a 180 class whitetail because he was not sure if the shot was perfect. When you do something unsafe, he points it out, and you know it, and WILL NOT do it again.

NR, there are circumstances where the rule should change, but I was only generally speaking.

Sounds to me like you boys have it dialed in pretty darn well. My boys hunt togther just like that . There's a loose group of them about 7 or so and there's always 3 to 5 hunting at the same time. They don't concentrate much on deer but between them they have killed at least 15 good bull Elk in the last 5 years.

The really neat thing is they kinda figure out who needs to get an Elk and then they all work towards that goal. After the kill they usually end up hauling it out with frame packs.

Keep up the hunting with your brother and friends , it will be a life long relationship. Sounds like your dad trained you like I did my boys. Good For him.

By the way you're probably right about WHSH.
