WASHINGTON, D.C. – Montana's Congressman, Denny Rehberg, who is a member of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Energy and Water, today released the following statement in response to the Obama Administration's plan to release 30 million barrels of oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve.

"The Strategic Petroleum Reserve was created to deal with emergency disruptions in supply, like a hurricane or oil embargo—not as a price fixing scheme. So it's hard to understand why the Obama Administration would rather tap emergency supplies, leaving us more vulnerable to future disasters, when we have massive stockpiles of oil in our own back yard. Allowing domestic energy production would not only lower energy costs for Montana's families, but it would create thousands of American jobs in the process. Just yesterday, I joined the House in passing legislation that would produce a million barrels per day and create 54,000 jobs while reducing our dependence on foreign energy. If we agree that more supply solves the problem, why won't the Senate take up similar legislation to get the ball rolling on an all-of-the-above energy solution for Americans?"
