This will be a very sad year

I retired a couple of years ago, in great anticipation of what's ahead in retirement. We intended to sell our house near Tomball, and build on my small acreage near Trinity. Over the last couple of years, the economy went bust, our daughter had a divorce, loosing my son-in-laws help, and other obstacles have gotten in the way. The short of it, we have decided to sell not only the ranch but our house too and relocate to Illinois, where we lived some 20+ years ago.

I have real mixed feelings about this, since I doubt I'll find property in Illinois that I will be content with, but I must admit, finances dictates we make a change. It has gotten very frustrating knowing what you want to do, but simply don't have the manpower or money to get it that way. www.circle4ranch.com has all the details. Besides the land, there is tractors, trailers, UTV and cows, household items, and later on our residence.. If anyone in my area is interested in any of the items, let me know. Be kind if you contact me. I'm usually fairly easy to get along with, but right now….I really am that grumpy old man.

I am so sorry to hear of your troubles. Life can be going along so good and then all of a sudden the wheels just fall off, it seems.

As you sort through the needs of the day, I hope you will find life to be better and kinder again soon.

Are you sure moving to Illinois will solve the problem? Moving is an expensive exercise to undergo. Your heating bill will undoubtedly be much higher in Illinois.

Can you downsize in Texas, and still stay there? Maybe sell off part of your land, livestock, and machinery and still stay in Texas. The first question I would ask myself is: Do I want to live in Texas or Illinois? and then go from there. As for the cost of living being any cheaper in Illinois than Texas, that is doubtful. Then you need to consider cold winters up north along with hot muggy summers, compared to mild winters and hot dry summers in Texas.

Think it out pretty thoroughly before you pull the plug, and ask the Good Lord for guidance along the way. We are pulling for you, jcummins.

:agree: Me too.

I would not do anything unless I found another place that I was totally happy with. This is too big a move for mixed feelings. This is a move where you want to be sure.

We're rooting for you. We can identify with you too, because things are headed that way up here too.... for a lot of people in the cattle business. This winter and spring there will be big decisions made all over the place, on just about every operation.

My Mom always said that when God closes a door, he opens a window. So we need to look for the windows.

Well....shoot!

I'm sure you have put a lot of thought into this, I'm sorry that
things haven't turned out as you wanted. I think Soapweed has
brought up some things for consideration, I hope you think about
what he said. Sometimes we get so discouraged we dwell on
the negative too much. Hopefully you will get some input here that
will help firm up your decision, or help you see there are options.

Things change a lot in 20 years. We moved away from our home
(Wyoming) and we have been told you can never go back. I believe
you can return, but perhaps never go back because of how much
things change. I assume you have family in Illinois? If so, that
should help.

God bless you and keep you.

Keep us posted as to your progress, if you don't mind. We care.

All of my family here has had many discussions on this over the recent months....everything you've said has been discussed. And yes even if we can get everything sold without getting burned, this will not only be a sad year, but a tough one.

Outside of immediate family, we actually have more family in Illinois, but I've been much farther out of contact with them than my family has. The cold kills me, but it is 150% the opposite with the rest of my family. I'm saying this isn't just my decision....it's a family one.

I will say, for the last two years the only thing I've done is work at the ranch. My wife says I'm going to die of a heart attack at the ranch.....but I feel there are a lot of worse ways to go. As hard as the work is at times...why in the world does someone enjoy that. Guess I need to do some adjustments and revive some interests that I use to do, but haven't had time for for years.

So sorry to see that your havin to do this. But I passed this along to several of our barrel racing friends that are thinking of movin to Texas. They might be interested.

Also will show the equipment list to Mr Lilly...he might be interested in some of the things you have for sale.

Life can sure be hard sometimes. I feel for you and hope you can make the most of a tough situation. Whatever you end up doing, remember to smile when ya can and lean on the Lord when ya can't smile. Who knows? Maybe this move will end up being the best thing that's ever happened when ya look back at it later. But the getting there is the hard part. Good luck! :-)

Man I hate to see you go. It was nice see someone from my neck of the woods on here. Whats is the Miller Bobcat welder and torch look like? It has no picture. I have been look for one.

Yep, I'm missing a few pictures. I hope to take some more pictures, including the welder, this week. Before the week is out, I should have a picture of it.

I've got a friend living on Alaskan Lane....so I've gone by what I think is your place several times. I kind of watched for someone shaking a tree, if so, I'd of stop and said hello. I'll add a post here when I've got the additional pics up.

That thought has crossed my mine, but only briefly. 43 years with the same woman, can't change that now.

That would probably make her in her 60's. :???:

Maybe you could trade her in for two in their 30's

Hope she doesn't read this board or I'm in trouble. :o
