Been pretty slow at my day job for the last 3 weeks. So slow that i havent worked. Hard on the checkbook but good for working on my place. I built a 30 by 12 foot woodshed, welded a bunch of new gates for my working corral, put up my first crop hay and a hundred other little projects. I have snuck out a couple times to scout bucks as they are growing bone pretty fast. The paintbrushes are starting to fade.

On the western slope in the head of Pine canyon is the hill-top mine. This old rock house was somebodys home.

The big fires of '94 burned the timbers and the roof. They used to drag the ore over the pass and down the east canyon on green hides. Later they built a tram system to get the ore lower into the canyon to be shipped by truck to the mill. This all happened before 1900.

Another shot of the old rock house. In about '85 or '86 my cousin and I hiked across the comb of the mountain from north-west to south-east. We spent a wild night in the old rock house during an electric storm. The lightning was close but we hunkered down and waited it out. The next morning we nosed around the old place and found a wooden ammo box full of dynamite leaking nitrate like crazy. We'd of been toast if one bolt hit!
My dad and uncle took the horses up the next weekend and disposed of it in an old shaft by setting it off!

All the bucks we saw were a long ways out and the sun was wrong for pictures through my spotting scope. Did see a nice sunset.

Tonight I had the priviledge to MC the 1st annual Miss Vernon Princess pagent. We have a big to do on the 4th of July. This year 6 young ladies competed to be Miss Vernon. The crowd wasn't large but they sure clapped and yelled great! They all get to ride in a '52 Lincoln convertable in our parade.

The rains have been very kind to your country this year. Thanks for taking me along. :D

Those little gals look like they had a lot of fun.

We are gonna have to find you a job, your belly is passin your hatbrim. :P

Hope your search for work isn't too long. Check out getting a work visa, places up here where there is work for someone who will.

Well work might be slow but you weren't wasting your time!! Great pictures, as usual. Well, until the last one . . . . . thorn teaching the roses something???

That country is pretty. One day I am going to drive up there. Looks like you have a job building gates. People down here are always looking for good pipe gate. Those Tractor Supply gates only last until the bull or tractor hits them. You better have you shotgun ready for thoses girls boy friends.

You are multi talented H.. Are you smarter than an eight year old? At least you know how to curtsy. A thorn amongst roses indeed.

You get applaluse for being involved. More women do this than
guys, so that make you special.

 :P

Looks like everyone had a great time. Those kids came up
with some good 'talent.' Gotta love the way kids think.

Thanks for sharing.
