Does injectable Dectomax kill ticks? 8)

I just talked to my vet on another matter, and asked him about the Dectomax. He says it will knock the tics off, but no residual. Need to use a permetherin, and you might get 3 weeks worth of control.
Are you guys fighting ticks again this year? I haven't seen any on horses, yet. Still have them running in the trees, and normally we see tics about now.

Around here a tick would be wearing long-underware, carharts and packing a thermos of coffee. Funny how different parts of the planet are.

I always thought that about this area, until about 5 years ago. We have fought with them on horses, pretty much every year since. This year we aren't seeing them at all, but part of that is because I don't have them locked completely down on the river. The horses can get up out of the trees. 2 years ago, we back poured all 9 horses. My old gray lost every bit of hair where the pour on was. Needless to say, we haven't poured anything since.

We have Foothill Abortion out this way, which is caused by a tick. It would be nice to know if you could use something to keep the ticks off cattle other than running them through a vat.

Well I looked... and no covereens on those fat buggers and they weren't packin no thermos either... I haven't seen our tick infester, we may have croaked him..

Can you still buy Dursban in the States?
It worked well for ticks along the Fraser breaks in the 80's.

He would go and stay at the border crossing long enough to bring across the daily personal allowance until he had enough to treat his yearlings. After the first 2 years of doing this through the same border guard. the fellow told him to bring what he needed in one shot as there was no point in Canada's rules wasting a valuable week for a rancher.
Not sure how many years he used the product but it was into the late 80's anyway.

We have had ticks show up rarely on our dogs in mid winter but do see some on the horses and the odd cow seems to attract them. We pet the dogs is how we find them and it isn't common. Also seems like only the poor doing cows seem to get bothered by tics and not every year. We have squirted a little Ivomec on these if they were poor enough we needed to separate them off but mostly haven't had to worry about them. As Gcreekrch says the folks along the river have lost yearlings to tics in the summer.

Well he died.... We had a four point buck that got his nose hurt. He was always eating out of the hopper on the auger. Was nothing to have 10 to 20 fat ticks on the ground. So we darted him with injectable dectomax to see if we could clean him up.. But his injuries was just to much and he died.... We did our best to try and save the bugger but I guess the lord needed another buck in heaven.... Dean took it kinda hard.... But that's just the way it goes sometimes..

Makes you wonder if you put a rub out somewhere close to their feeding area, would deer use it? It would be easy to mix just like cattle rub, I would guess you would mix it like you would for sheep. I believe if you look at the label, they actually have mixing instructions to pour sheep.
