#1 son and I went to town today and got him a new rifle. (I told each of my boys I would buy them either a good rifle or a good quality acoustic guitar for their 18th birthday. They all shoot and they all play.)
Anyway, he picked out a Tikka rifle. He wanted a Browning A-bolt in 25-06 but we couldn't find one so he went with the Tikka in that cal.
I've always had Winchester,Browning and Remington rifles but this Tikka feels pretty good to me and I'm not a bolt action fan.
Pretty accurate ,too. Shot a 3/8" group at about 65 yds. So did the kid. He's all smiles.
How do these Tikka rifles stand the test of time? Anybody else have one?
PS. What is the big attraction about Glock 40's?? Every gunshop we were in had a few odds and ends and a ton of friggin' Glock 40's. What's up with that??? :o

I can speak well of the .40 s&w round. I have an HK USP .40, very similar ballistics to the .45 ACP, maybe a little more accurate, sufficient stopping power, plus you have room for one more round in the mag. SOCOM (Special Operations Command) adopted that round recently to replace the 9mm. I think the Glock 40 is what my buddy has, I tried it out without any complaints.

I have seen a few Tikka's that hunter have been carrying and they sure seem happy. Did you get it at Joe Brooks?

I got a line on one in 270. Friend on son in law bought three rifles for $800 off the Brandon Swap and shop, Remington A 8mm mag, a Winchester 30-06 and a Tikka 270. I never find those deals.

Mike, think he said it was a 25-06....

I shot a Glock 9 of a friends.. It shot pretty good.. I prefer my H&K 45 mind you but that is just me..Never was able to get comfortable with the Colts my budy had, don't know why.. Thought about trying again with a Springfield since they are built right down the road, for now at least...

A lot of the military are finding that some of the new weaponry that was adopted by the forces are too much of lightweights for some of the duty...I've spent a lot of time talking with some of the returning vets--and one of the things I was happy to see was the revival of the 7.62 cartridge...

They are dusting off my old favorite the M-14 and using them for sniper rifles because they give the power to penetrate vehicles and buildings- and the fact that many of the bad guys are getting their hands on bullet proof vests :???: ...I also saw a show on the military channel of a new weapon the Seals are using--I think they called it the M48- which is a 7.62 light machine gun-belt fed-- that looked like a beauty to shoot...It also comes in the M46 which is 5.56- which is an identical gun except for different size bolt and barrel...

And like you said- it also it sounds like most the special forces and any others going in harms way are switching away from the 9mm pistol cartrige--preferring the 40, and some even using the old 45... One young fella I talked with the other day said he packed a Glock with .45 GAP caliber- because of the preference of the stacked clip....He said that at least one person in his squad also packed an M-14 and when their M-14 man was wounded he began packing it--and like me, he was sold on what that baby can do...

I always did think when you wanted to stop someone or something in its tracks the 9mm was kind of a wimp....

Yup!!! Got it at Joe Brooks. I like the guys in there. Pretty decent ,honest fellas. The one guy comes out and calls coyotes in my area quite often.
I'm curious now to see how my .243 stacks up against the 25-06 for varmint type sniping. The kid says he will out-shoot me......and he's probably right!!! Guess we'll find out this winter.

I've got a 25.06 last year for goats and coyotes. I haven't drawn a goat tag yet & mange has pretty well taken care of the coyotes in our immediate area, so I've been left with prairie dogs. If they're within 300 yards and I've got at least half a dog to shoot at, I've got 'em.

Don't get to excited, the M-14's are going back into storage with the fielding of the new Sniper Rifle that will replace the M-24 for the army as well as given to the Squad Designated Marksman. The XM 110 is made by Knight's Armament, it's based on the AR-10 with a whole bunch of accessories. It takes a 20 round mag and most importantly, it's chambered in 7.62x51 NATO.

I think the Masada from Magpul will be my next rifle, possibly get it in 6.8 SPC, Google it, check it out. May be a little new fangled for some of you here.

Maybe the military will put some more surplus M-14's out for L.E. to get again then...We got a dozen- and I packed it all the time....Good gun for this country and the wide open spaces-- while most L.E. wanted something easier to handle in urban areas...
I always wanted to get a coyote lined out going up a side hill where I could click it over to full and chase him up the hill with it....I had to put a pretty heavy tripod on it to compensate for its wanting to walk up on full auto--altho I know of few situations you would ever use it that way in a L.E. situation...
We had M-14s for a short time when I was guarding planes back in 1970-but then soon got M-2 carbines....Nice light little gun-but kind of a popgun compared to the M-14...M-2 carbines and 38 pistols with ball ammo- that you probably could shoot someone a dozen times and still not stop them..

Ty does have a Tikka T3 Laminate in 25.06 with a 4x12 Bushnell Elite 3200 scope-so far all he's shot is coyotes and a black bear with it but it is a nice accurate gun. The action is super smooth-in November he's going to warm it up on some mulies and whitetails. You know with all the new calibres and such out there I'm becoming more of a traditionalist-I'm getting a real craving for a nice .308 or 30.06 to add to the collection. There's a swett model 788 in .308 for sale on the net right now too. I have two of those ugly little workhorses but I love them.
