Morning, guess it not officially 1:50 yet, was sleeping well, had put a couple cows in the old barn at 6 when I let the cows into their hay at 6PM. Checked at 10 the one in front had not calved. Tenny is home on spring break so she said she check at 12.Was Z-ing along good when the cell rings. The cow had calved, pissed of the skunk that lives under the barn and had Tenny in a corner of the pen and wouldn't let her out. It's an old barn and the pens go right up to the low ceiling, and she in one of 2 pens with no hole into the loft. Time I get there she is out getting a big Hereford bull calf in the sled. Needless to say we couldn't get her in the newer barn had to put her over in the perfumed one, calf got right up and suckled too, probably could of been left out tonight think it only suppose to get down around 10* tonight.

Jody, there is never a dull moment around your place! I've got my own continuing skunk episode going. Seems every time I head out and the skunk is on the doorstep in the cat dish I have the .22 out in the pickup. One of these encounters I'm going to have the right tool at the right time for the job.

Make sure you are out of the blast zone when you pop the smelly bag.

Two of my dogs were too close when a 223 found its way thru the varmit and they were not pleasent to be around for days after.

In this case it seems that everything within about a 20' radius was coated.

Pick the skunk up by the tail, but make sure his rear legs can't touch anything. Done it many times.

Then dump it in a milk can and slam the top down on it. He won't spray within an enclosed area like that.

Then haul him away. Lay the milk can down on it's side and knock the lid off. Then back off while he comes out.

Shooting a skunk is a mess.

I'd pay to see a clinic on that-back in our hog days we had a skunk decided that the market hogs was a nice warm place to sleep. I just left him be couldn't really catch him anywhere to dispose of him. I imagine if he'd of sprayed that whole pen of hogs would of been no good to sell. I had a pet skunk when I was a kid they're preetty cool.
