It was about as crazy has being at the CME it self. I have been trainning a new USDA market reporter to cover two other sales in East Texas and he sure looked at me funny when I said that 500 lb number 3 muscle steer that brought 1.28 per lb. I even had to look again.

Steers

200 lb 194
300 lb 186
400 lb 169
500 lb 154
600 lb 144
700 lb 123
800 lb 108

Heifers

200 lb 175
300 lb 152
400 lb 145
500 lb 130
600 lb 128
700 lb 110
no 800 weight was recorded.

Packer cows top at 74.5 per lb and bulls at 79.5

Pairs topped at 1060 per hd and bred cows at 1040 per hd.

These prices are compared to the prices back in the 80's for what we had today. Alot of happy sellers and I wished I was one of them, but I had to sell our herd last month to pay for my parents home care.

Sure would like to see a South East Texas barn reported.

Raywood, Angleton, Wharton? All are in range for me, but none of them report, so I never know the best prices...

I went to Raywood this past weekend...saw a slaughter bull weigh in 2137 lbs and fetch .97...Not bad at all for a bull that had seen his hay day.

Raywood had 2 order buyers, and 4 packers....nobody else was buying...only selling. I want to see some more buyers or at least some reporting to keep those numbers honest!

Our Radio had a live report from Joplin Regional Stockayrds at 11 am while the auction was going on.

The high dress bulls were topping at 90 cents and the high dressing cows were topping at 80 cents. Average cows selling 62 cents on the lower end.
I think bred cows will be better before long.

I was feeding so do not remember all the quotes.

Sorry Mark we only report 22 of the biggest sale barns around the state. The guy that owns Raywood used to buy a few cows up here and resell them down there. But it been years since I seen him. Wharton should be a pretty strong sale. It own by the same guy that own's Capital Feeders out of Austin. The only one in your part of ther state that is report is Navasota Livestock.

Hay Feeder it sure is nice to live close to the packer houses where shipping cost is down. We will never see those kind of prices for packer cows and bulls.

Trinity Man those L3 seem to sell well here also. Maybe comming 2 year olds. Feedlot buyers like them because of contespisory (sp) gains. After a few wornings they will see the first bite of suppliment and feed in their life.
I have been told they gain out the wazoo and finish light without many days on feed. They become muscle 2 real fast.

Hate them and their previous owners took all the losses.

Read the West Plains market report or last weeks and compare it to the previous week and this weeks Joplin. Semi loads of kill cows and bulls with 3.30 Fuel still made a great profit.
