Looks just like home today Oldtimer,Greg and our daughter are debating what they're going to pull out of shed today...old ski-doo or the one horse cutter,I think Greg will win and it will be the cutter

Our day looks about like yours Oldtimer. Just a white out here. This sums up the situation in SD. I bet Cal is getting a big end of this snow by the description. He is probably working his behind off today.

Our youngest son was home for the weekend to help with calving while his oldest brother was in Spearfish winning the "Old Timer's" wrestling tournament yesterday. He just called from Gillette to tell me he'd arrived back at work safely and the roads weren't too bad.

It's still snowing lightly and blowing like a son-of-a-gun here. Can't keep enough wood in the stove, got at least one calf with frozen ears, and we got to re-sew two prolapses that had been stitched together before they were ready to calve. Just love doing that sort of thing in this kind of weather - NOT!!

But hey, it's warmed up. It's up to 24 degrees now!

This is probably a billion dollar storm-- If you look at the national radar it looks like more than half the nation is getting some type of moisture- even Texas...... :D

Wouldn't be bad it it wasn't for that wind-- keeps blowing harder- 30 gusting to 40 now--They're predicting we could get to 50mph before the storm plays out...Temp is still 28........

Good pictures, Oldtimer. Your cattle are in great condition, and the extra insulation provided by your Carhartts gives the optical illusion that you have wintered pretty well, also.

Nice pictures. A shelter belt like that one would be nice, we used to raise sheep so have 2 nice big barns (50'x96') for the cows to go in. One is for the new born calves and the other is for the older calves. Got a fence built across the middle so the calves can all get into one end away from the wet cows and lay down.
Miserable time to be calving, I feel sorry for the folks around here that are just starting. we started the 2nd week in feb so are about done, only have about 20 left to go and they pretty much stopped. Saturday night I got 3 but didnt get any all day Sunday and tonight

I would guess we have over 12 inches of snow or more, it's hard to tell when the wind is blowing this hard, some of the drifts across the calving yard were about half way between knee and hip high.
some of the cows standing beside the barn had about 6 inches of snow piled up on their backs
I would have tried to take some pictures but I think they would have come out all white.

Robert, central SD

OT-thanks for the pictures! Your cattle are in great shape which won't hurt a bit to weather the storm. You are correct on the billion $ storm. I was thinking about the fires, floods and blizzards all going on in this country now-like you said earlier-who is the Boss? Anyway it has been raining here in central KS off and on since Sun. am and is to turn to snow at day break and get 8-12 in. here in the central part and windy as it is all over,I think. We are about done calving so hopefully it won't go too bad,but we sure needed the moisture. Kids are on spring break so had big plans of working cattle and fencing, but they can help dig out as well. Hope all have a good day :!:

Sure looks different here today-- snow has stopped...We only got about 2 inches all together, but it is blowed all over the place in all size drifts...Wind still blowing about 25 mph- 20 degrees and its flat nippy out there...Weather boys are saying we will have this wind a couple more days ( not sure when we don't have it  ) but that its supposed to be in the 40's by Thursday and possibly 50's by the weekend...That will have the water running..... :D

OT, thanks for the good weather forcasts you post on ranchers.net. Yours are more accurate than any around here. The wind died down here this morning, though it has not given up totally. I think we got about 3 inches that has blown into some drifts. Sure glad we didn't get any more. And glad we weren't in the midst of calving yet.

I sure appreciate the shape your cattle are in. They look GOOD!!!

OK, any of you people who live up in the se corner of Montana and the ne corner of Wyo, would you please return all of my snow that blew into your parts, the last few days? :???:

I need it to fill my stock dams.

Thanks. :D

Jingle bob- I confess-- I think I have some of yours....Weather boys say we only got 2 inches-- but I found one stackpen almost drifted shut with 3 foot drifts--- and I agree with FH I don't think I could stand the wind it will take to blow it back...I don't even think I'll fire up the loader- just feed out of another stack and let it melt with those 50 degree days they say are around the corner.....I'll send it down the Missouri to you

Wind still howling 30 mph- but the sun keeps peeking out of the clouds now and again :D
