Even though you might be breeding really good horses, if your horses are not getting shown and promoted they will be considered average by potential buyers. You cant make any money with average horses around here.
Ya I guess it all comes down to what your looking for in a horse, greg wouldn't even consider a horse thats been shown,we want ranch horses, animals that work for and with us...those we willingly pay good money for. :)

I dont think your getting what im saying. Remember my example of Douglas Lake Cattle Company. Let me explain better.
Matlock Rose proved their breeding stock in the show ring and put them on the map years ago. They just won the AQHA "Bayers" Best Remuda award last year. Their horses are honest to God ranch horses.
Would Greg not want one of their ranch horses?
Im thinking he would. So would a lot of people. Douglas Lake has enough of a rep that they dont advertise. They dont need to. Everybody knows about them.
But this is what im trying to stress about promotion.
Here is another example. Pat Parelli.
Is he the best horseman out there? Heck no! But he is without a doubt the best promoter

Katrina its people like yourself that has me disgusted with the horse business. The thoughts of one of my horses being resold to somebody like you depresses the heck out of me.

Think or say whatever you want. Was only giving you my perspective from my area. Example just a few days ago a member from this forum that we all know who lives in your country contacted me through private message about buying a horse from me.

RoperAB, Katrina is a fine gal. I sold her a horse a couple years ago, and know it went to a very good home. She will feed it, ride it, and take care of any veterinary procedures that need to be done. She will care for the horse until she no longer needs it, or until someone else needs it worse and pays her enough money to buy it. If she still owns the horse in its final days, she will either care for it until it dies, OR sell it to a packer buyer. The horse will have a humane haul to a packing plant, and be mercifully killed and processed into useful commodities. It is Katrina's prerogative on what to do with the horse, but I guarantee she will care for it to the best of her ability until she sells it to a responsible buyer.

In addition to Katrina's compassion for horses, she and her husband raise cattle and crops. They are salt of the earth people that go way above and beyond the call of duty as far as raising food for the world's hungry people. You sneeringly call these kind of people "dirt farmers". It is just not right for you to do this. If it weren't for people like Katrina, providing food for your table, you wouldn't have time to be the wonderful horseman that you think you are. You would instead be trying to eke out a living and trying to raise a garden so you could survive.

It takes all kinds of people to make the world go around. We should all admire and respect the hard workers that possitively impact our daily lives.

Roper I am not knocking what you are saying at all, Horse folks are a strange bunch including myself, Horses unlike any other livestock is looked at in many different ways.
Where my opinion of a horse that naturaly tries to hurt someone needs to be treated like cattle and gotten rid of
someone else wants it saved because it is a horse
and where i might think to discipline or train a horse one way there is another way for every person that owns a horse

But in this neck of the woods where horses aren't real dominate in the show world and you have ranchers who would rather go to a registered angus auction or prospect show, Names of horses aren't as important as how the horse performs working on a ranch or in an arena roping.
your average decent money horse around here is 4K anything more rarely seen.

About the dirt farmer jab on the other thread.

I just want to set the record straight. Im not a horse snob. Im the exact opposite of that.
But I do dislike people who blame the horse for things that are the owners fault. Not the horses fault.
One of the reasons im so against hose slaughter is because of a guy I know. This guy was given the ranch, trucks, cow herd, the whole works and even given some decent saddle stock.
This guy thinks he is a horseman because he was born on the ranch and was sat on good horses to trail cows when it had to be done ever since he was a kid. He has no interest in horses. He was never taught anything and he sure would not make the efort to learn anything about horses. He only uses them because he has to trail cows every now and then.
He generally refers to horses as dog food but yet he likes to dress the part of a cowboy because he really likes the image.
Because of his own actions he got bucked off in front of others. Took the horse straight to the packers instead of to auction because he said he wanted to make sure the horse didnt get bought by someone who would give it a good life. He said he wanted the horse to suffer for what it did to him. By selling it to the packers he could make it suffer and get paid for it at the same time. When I think of horse slaughter I think of him.
And thats just one example. I could give many more but the theme is always the same.

BTW
How would a farmer like it if people who have never farmed for a living started saying that they knew more about the farming business than he did? What if these people told the farmer that because they had a garden in their backyard that they knew more about agribusiness than he did and then they started calling him names? Wouldnt the farmer get annoyed?
