A tornado touched down tonight in McCone County about nine miles west of Brockway, the National Weather Service said.
The NWS' Glasgow office said trained weather spotters reported the tornado, which was "nearly stationary," at about 9 p.m.
The McCone County Sheriff's Office dispatched a deputy to the area but as of 9:40 p.m., no damage or other problems had been reported.
As a result, the National Weather Service issued a tornado warning for northern Prairie, southern McCone and western Dawson counties until 10:15 p.m.
A tornado warning means that one is likely to, or already has developed. People in the warning areas should move inside to a sturdy building and stay away from windows.
"If in mobile homes or vehicles, evacuate them and get inside a sturdy shelter," the NWS said. "If no shelter is available, lie flat in the nearest ditch or other low spot and cover your head with your hands."
