Too much sitting in the house by the AC. We decided to take a road trip to a cooler spot and be tourists for a day. So road trip to Joseph. Walked up and down the street poking our heads into the shops. Got lunch. Saw some interesting things. Didn't buy any of the over priced stuff they sell to tourists. When we left we debated which way to go. About 8 years ago we went up over the mountains to Halfway. It was that or back to La Grande the way we came. Figured it was 6 one way or half a dozen the other way. Wrong. It was 6 one way and 2 dozen the other. The road over the hills wasn't as straight as I remember. It is not all curves. There are straight places. You come out of a curve and the road will go straight for a good solid 10 feet before you start the next curve. The wife said she was happy we went that way. I thought, yes you weren't driving.

An interesting thing we saw in the museum was a picture of Chief Joseph in his later years. It said the picture was taken by a woman whose last name was Friedlander, Joseph lived out his life on the Colville reservation in Washington near the town Nespelem. I had a friend who I traveled with some to rodeos with. He was an Indian raised in Nespelem by the last name of Friedlander. Did his grandmother take the picture?
