RAIN!!!!!!!!!! YEEE HAWWWWW!!
And the cattle look really good.

So please tell us how riding that mule differs from riding a horse,
Soapweed. And how long did it take for your horses to get used
to the mule. Any horses I ever saw around a mule for the first
time, were plenty nervous. I think it is/was the smell they
weren't used to.

My grandfather in Missouri used to raise mules...

The mule can effortlessly outwalk any horse on the ranch. He is fun to ride, but is still quite "green." Being a mule, he may or may not get over being this way. He has a smooth trot and a long-strided ground-covering lope. He is a bit hard to hold on a straight course, though, as he tends to veer when he thinks that the other horses get to go to more fun places than he does. :? :-) The wind was howling yesterday, which never puts any horse or mule really at their best. Then when it started to rain, ol' Willy had a bit of a hard time accepting my bright yellow slicker. The ride went well and he is a good little animule. :-)

In the afternoon, there were eleven heifers in a bunch of pairs that we needed to sort out, before driving the next bunch of heifers home. I just thought things would go better if I traded back to a dependable cow horse. They did.

Soap, I just gotta ask: Did you ever consider naming your long-eared friend "Kawasaki"?  :P 8) :D

Not yet. It is supposedly bad luck to change the name of a horse. I would assume that the same could be said for changing the name of a mule. He came to us with the "answers to the name of Willy" accolade. I'd best keep the status quo. :-)

"animule"...

Well, good for you for 'picking the ride' for your green mule.
Nothing wrong with choosing experience for the more exacting
work later. Sometimes its so hard to ride something 'green' when
you could enjoy riding something that has 'been there, done that",
but wet saddle blankets are the only way to get the 'green' out,
yet it is wise not to put a young inexperienced youth in a situation to do a job he isn't ready for.

I like the way you do things. You have a lot of wisdom.

Ya know Soapweed...I always enjoy showing hubby what happens on your ranch...but I don't show em the ones that have that longeared critter that you ride...cause if I do..that's all I hear...."If Soap can have one why can't I?""" He's like a little kid wanting a mule..lol

I want a mule, my grandma has been talking to me about letting her donkey in with my mares I have considered it but there old hehe
