Triple Crown Forage OATS - nutrient analysis

I'm no feeds expert - curious to know how this analysis looks. good, bad?? they were raised organic and had them germ test too - 92%. seed plant said they'd give 3/bu but doesn't seem right. might get them cleaned and bagged and try to peddle them to the hobby horse guys over in flathead valley - they might be broke tho.

I am far from an expert on oats, but as far as lab testing, I do know that I would use SDK of Hutchinson Kansas over Servi - tech and I would NEVER use Ward Labs .
 
Cenex Harvest States advertises for feed analysis. i thought they said it was going to state lab. didn't have much choice in the deal i guess.

3/bu would be around 8/cwt or 160/ton.... i think i'll just keep them to winter the bulls on for the next 10 years.

My neighbor raises oats.....So I take my gravity box over when they are combining and say filller up... :wink: I have the best oats for my horses and the price is perfect.. Oats for cleaned wheat..... And Muddy it's a two to one ratio.. :wink: :twisted: :P

That test seems a little wonky on protein for an oats sample? Damn near 15% protein is off the charts. Typcially it will test between 8-10%, with a higher NDF. Is this the low lignin oat? TDN looks good on it though. Do you know if they used NIR or Wet chem for this sample?

i guess that is why i put it on here - i've never had oats tested before and thought the protein was high for oats. i don't know if it is a low lignin oat or if it was nir or wet chem - not up on it to even know the difference.

anyhow - the sale bulls seem to like it...

wonky must be a sask word - i got a good friend from sask that uses that word all the time.... mosty in the phrase "wonky pedigree"

since late november they were just getting some oat hay self fed. my uncle finally got to hauling hay last weekend so now they are getting self choice alfalfa/grass hay and will get these whole oast 4lbs/day split morning and night. the oat hay sure puts a shine on them but they seem to labor a little eating it. i think i let it get a little too mature before i layed it down and it got rained on twice and was turned twice before i got it rolled up. anyhow - i don't have a lot in the oat hay or oats so should help the bottom line for a couple years.
 
Triple Crown were grown for grain around here for a few years but are now mostly used for silage. They grow very tall were hard to harvest for the yield they produced, thus the silage. I can't see why they are any better than any other oats. Sometime if they are grown on a high manure situation they may have high protien.
They arn't low lignin. I was at Lanigan when they were promoting the low lignin oats. they sounded very interesting as thier was no benifit to processing. They showed the same gains as barley in a background ration. Have you seen any of them around?
