I have a '98 GMC Sierra 1500 with the 5.7L Vortec. When I drive through sitting water on the back road, the truck starts bogging and gets gutless, but after 10-15 minutes it's back to normal, the power comes back bit by bit. My question is what is getting wet down there? It's not very deep water, maybe up to the middle of the wheels in the deep spot so i don't think its my air filter. Is there maybe a connection to something? I have a manual transfer case if that makes a difference.

Does your check engine light come on?

Possibly your o2 sensor.
You could be kicking water up into your air intake. Check your air filter and see if it is wet.

The check engine light did not come on, and I know it isn't the intake, I thought it was at first, so i duct taped the whole box shut and tried and it still did the same thing two hours later. And what do I do if it is the O2 sensor?

Jingo, I needed to take that road to get to the hay I was hauling. God put 4x4 in it and the keys in my hand for a reason ;) lol
 
Hairline fracture in the distributor cap or else a bad seal. Daughter's chevy truck started doing the same thing. Could not find a crack but replaced the distributor cap anyway. Problem went away.

Exactly my thoughts. A cheap thing to try is to buy a can of silicone spray and hose it down. It seems to me you can buy sealer just for this problem.
Next time it does it pull the distributor cap off and have a look at the top inside. Odds are you'll see moisture in there and if you do that's your problem. If the cap is actually cracked odds are good that there would be a miss.
 
Have you had it scanned? The scanner might pick up a repair code off the computor.

Check your wiring around the sensors you might have a short.
It could be something easy to find and fix or it might be something that will take awhile to get repaired.

I will try the distributor cap tonight, and I am bringing my truck over to our neighbours to hook it up to some computer thing and see if it is just a sensor that I need to reset. Does anyone know how to change the gauge cluster? My fuel gauge is going on the fritz, but it isn't stuck at full or empty it moves around, so I thik it might just be a short of some sort
 
I would also add that you might try spraying the ignition wires with WD 40 right after it starts acting up and see if that helps. If it does, then they need replacing.
