What a game tonight against the U'S-they schooled us for two periods but we got our composure and came from behind to win it in a shootout. I don't think Canada has ever had a worse two periods-we were just squeezing our sticks and were intimidated by the speed of the U'S. But you can't take away our will to win-once we started supporting the puck on the forecheck we were good. Jordan Eberle is totally awesome which helped!!!

The penalty shot was the bad call-the goal was borderline but tough for the reff-we were just lucky a good team let us off the hook. I imagine Ryan Ellis is the happiest kid in Canada right now-he really fought the puck for two periods. That U'S goalie played really well for being a 17 year old-I doubt you could watch more entertaining hockey-it was soo fast they didn't have time to get chippy.

Fantastic game for sure. Looks like Eberle is gonna be a guy to watch for a long time. Wasn't it him that scored last year against the US with 3 seconds left in the semi final game?
Anyway, hockey like that is as good as it gets, those kids on both sides played their guts out.

Another classic last night, this time with the good guys coming out on top. I was so mad when the US took that dumb penalty of running the goalie with 4 minutes to go. As soon as Canada went on the power play I knew the Americans would be lucky to hold on.

I only was able to watch the 3rd period but a few things stand out to me.

1.) I don't ever remember a big game in which both teams pulled their starting goalies.
2.) Even though I am pleased with the outcome I don't like the 4 on 4 ot for the medel round. I think it changed the style of play of both teams too much and made the teams too cautious of giving up odd man rushes. The last 15 seconds excluded of course. 4 on 4 is fun in most situations but in a game as big as this they should just let them keep going 5 on 5 until it is decided.
3.) Winning 5 times in a row is especially impressive when it is a one loss and done situation once you get to the medel round. In even a best of 3 series a team has a chance of overcoming a bad bounce, bad call, or just an off night. But in a one and done situation you have to be on top of your game every night. Hat's of to the Canadians.
4.) Can you be more of a clutch player than Eberle? Wow, everytime he touched the puck in ot I cringed.

I'm sure the excuse of Team Canada not having all there top players available for the tournament will be used to justify the loss but I think the US win is good for hockey on both sides of the border. Hockey is Canada's game and anytime they are beaten by the US Canada seems to rise up to the next level to eliminate any doubts that. It will be an intense rivalry for years to come for sure.

I don't think you will hear any excuses for the loss. They were beat by a good team in a hard fought battle. As we say in the Ag world, next year. :-)

We won't use the 8 NHL'ers and Cody Hodson (injury) as an excuse heck they cut some very good players-when the teams are that evenly matched it comes down to one mistake or a bad bounce. In a big game your goalie has to be your best player the second U'S goalie rose to the test. I wish they'd of played a best of 37 I could watch those teams go at it every night. When they were interviewing the Canadian players before the game everyone thanked his family for supporting him on his way there which I thought was pretty sweet-the path to the Canadian World Jr. team is unbelievably tough. They did a good feature on Nazim Kadri-his Dad was an immigrant who fell in love with hockey but couldn't afford to play it so he made sure his son did. I'm sure gald the Oilers drafted Eberle-the way were playing we might end up with Taylor Hall too lol. I tyhink the U'S team was the best skating World Jr. team I've ever seen-not too many clubfoots on that roster. Enjoy the win!!!

i think this will be a great motivator for next year. this year's team didn't seem to play the other teams as if those games were an opportunity to get better for the games that mattered. it's understandable when you're dealing with teenagers who are following five gold medals. that's why they play them rather than just declaring a winner before the tournament.

Well they met their match and lost. I'd agree, don, that they could have showed a bit more workmanship rather than just try to blow past everybody. The U.S. did that, took nothing for granted. In the end it came down to goal-tending, I'd say. That American 17 year old was pretty darn good.
