Now we're at 91,000 acres :???:

Here are some pics from our house...our high temp was upper 80's today, will get to close to 100 tomorrow. Although the temps don't help, this also means no warm front or cold front coming in, so NO WIND. They will have to get it more contained tomorrow because a cold front is coming in for Monday, meaning Sunday will be blowing like a hurricane. All it takes is a spark..........................

It's too bad that the Government thinks it has to take over and tell US RANCHERS how to fight a fire....... -OR- tell us we can't help fight because of BLM and State Lands.......

Ya'll gotta remember that the federal fire fighters get paid to fight fire, not put it out!~~ :x In 1994 we lost a canyon and a half a day as wildfire marched across our allotment and over private land. Finally the rains came and stopped it naturally. We had a big blowup with the BLM fire manager. As the fire approached a road and creek bottom his cat operator started to build a firebreak. He ripped into the guy for building it on federal land when the opposite side of the creek was private. My dad let him have both barrells. He told him "Hey know-it-all, the fire is on public land too!!!!
Good luck and here's hoping ya get a good soaking rain with little or no blasted wind!
 
Hanto you guys be careful down there. Do you have a fire break around your place?

Talk up here is screw those fed guys and put the dang thing out yourself. Give me a volunteer crew anyday, unforunately after 8 or 12 hours the volunteers must leave and let the "other" guys take over. :roll: :evil:
Last year, almost to the day actually, had the DNRC guys show up on a huge fire. Laziest bunch of so and so's I ever saw. During the mop up stage they sat on a hill and watched all of the volunteer's and farmers work the hot spots and soak the edges. They were suppose to stay that night and watch it. They left and it made a 300 acre run.

Had a 2,000 plus acre fire up here on Wednesday. Had myself and 6 other trucks parked on the south side of the Missouri River in case the fire jumped the river.
 
How far away is this mtn from you?

I ask cause it seems to be all flat land around you.

When was the last rain/wet for ya'll?
 
We aren't flat, we're in the middle of the Bull Mountains....tough terrain to fight fires, and lots of TREES. Got a call from a neighbor who borders us on the West end of this ranch, the fire was at her door. There are firelines built on the W end of this place now in case the wind blows up this afternoon (which it normally does). There are 3 Graders and trucks and geez, I don't want to fight fire today :cry:

We got about 1/2" rain a week ago, and that was the first moisture we've had since June. It is dry, dry, dry and what's really scary is if the wind picks up and tops the trees.........there's no stopping it
 
Hanta- weather boys are predicting an 80% chance of rain down your way starting tomorrow (Sun) night-- 60% chance up here....And much cooler weather 50's and 60's-- but the bad news is that the cold front moving in starting today will bring Gusty and variable/changing winds- which can be sometimes either good or bad on a fireline........
 
Yeah, I know. Cold front means WIND That's what we're worried about and why the fireline is already set up on the W end of the ranch. With the wind, it won't take the fire long to get here.

Ok...I know about where you are then. Had friend that lived in the Bulls a few yrs ago and I visited there a good bit.

Forest fires are one thing that we have never had to worry about, and I'm thankful for it. We often envy those of you who live in the mountains for one reason or another, and tend to forget about the risks that go along with one region or another.

Take care of yourself Hanta. Rain will come soon. I'll imagine what it's like to see your pics with raindrops on the camera lens and try real hard to will it to you. :lol:
 
Fire really stinks when its raging out of control. It can be super helpful when used as a tool but with our current BLM and F.S. it's a four letter word. And then it goes nuts like around ya'll! Please be careful and good luck !!!! Hope ya get lots a rain!!!!
 
Just checked the radar map on my computor. It "looks" like you might have gotten something, but it could have been rain, smoke or virga.
Dopplers can't tell the difference.
Did you get anything? Sure hope you did.

Long line of thunder storms up here. Going to be a late night watching for fires.
 
The fire is now on us.

Just got in from building more firelines....everyone left except for the 2 brothers who used to live on this place and us...wind blowing like a banshee...sw is still on the fire but really no one can do anything until there are more people! We had a slight disturbance go through here, thunder, lightning (of course, let's add insult to injury :cry: ) and enough rain to make me use the windshield wipers for a total of 30 seconds, if that long.....just a sprinkle. I was hoping it would be the "saving grace" storm - NOT. MCG was a trooper and was getting cows out of the pasture and heading them home.....we already have a couple of baby calves out there....it's gonna be a looooong night.

I smell like a campfire YUK.

Will keep you posted - if there was an emoticon for worried I would have it here. It ticks me off when the best time to fight a fire is at NIGHT and everyone has to leave because of OSHA so during the NIGHT the fire can get away and we will have triple the problem :x As some of you guys have said, the "guvment" workers are just what they are, guvment workers. Work 8 hrs/day, no nights and no weekends. They "fight" fires but don't put them out. I'm surprised our Volunteer FD isn't out there...prolly because the guvment people said they couldn't :mad: When this is over I think I will raise a little bit of cain. :mad:

Found out that the DNRC is not hiring the contract firefighter's, got 4 of them up here and they could get 7 or 8 fire trucks down there, but the no goods won't call them. :mad:
Like I said Hanto the volunteers get kicked off after so much time.
Heard they are bringing in a "new" crew from Idaho.
 
Well, the cold front is here and has really slowed down the fire. I don't think we have much to worry about now, except need to find the cows with little babies and bring them home. I guess I can put my family pics back up on the wall :) There are still clouds of smoke out there, but it's white, not brown/black. :D I hear the planes so hopefully we can all get this thing put OUT.

Remember awhile back when I posted an article about the huge cuts in the budgets for fire suppression/fire departments... :???: They're already having to cut all the normal duties/budgets to start paying for fire suppression- which part of the budget is already used up.... :(

Smells like rain here- radar shows some going south- some west- and some north of us, but still haven't got any here...
