I drove out to Huntington yesterday and attended the veiwing. My folks and my aunt had driven out to price earlier and gotten a motel room. They stayed and attended the funeral today. It was sure a sad deal. Young widow with a 5 and a 6 year old (little boys they had adopted). The entire county and surrounding communities and countys are shook up. Elam was 28, an avid hunter and snowmobiler. He was a member of his mine rescue team and had been part of the Crandall Canyon rescue attempt a few years ago where 6 miners and 3 rescue members were killed and never recovered as the mine was so bad. His folks are amazing people. They were sad and yet strong. It was an honor to meet them and try to convey my support and concern. I probably didnt do it very well. Jaquie, my cousin and Elam's wife, was really having a tough time. She was so thankful we came but just sobbed as we hugged and shed some tears. She knows we love her and will do anything we can. I hope she can keep all the memories close and the Good Lord will send her comfort and peace over time. Thank you for your concern and prayers. She could sure keep using them if ya have the time.

I also wanted to share something i saw there. I don't want to have this come across as preachy or pushing God on folks, but i was totally amazed at what i saw. Elam's 6 year old had drawn a picture of the mine and his daddies accident. The family had framed it and had it displayed. They had attached notes explaining what the little guy had drawn. There was a big rock titled the mine ceiling. Then there was a rock that broke off and hit his dad. Then there was his dad as a stick figure only a 6 year old could draw. Next to his dad was another stick figure. His grandma asked Kelson if the other figure was the other miner who was caved on and had his leg broken but escaped with his life? Kelson said "no grandma, that's Jesus taking care of Dad". From the mouth of a babe folks. The pure and perfect innocence of children.

Please hug your kids and spouses! Please tell folks how much they mean to ya! Please treat folks kindly! Please don't take life for granted! And know it is much too short for some folks! Mrs. H and I are going to donate a half of a beef as a raffle item, as our way of trying to help Jaquie and her boys. It isnt much but we hope it will be a small help at a terrible and sad time.

Thanks for keeping us posted. We are continuing to pray for you and yours. Elam's son has a handle on things.........We won't have to cross Jordan alone.

From your posts here, 'H, I bet you were very capable comforting
supporting the family .You are a very compassionate guy.
I would imagine they were vey glad you were there.
Neat story about the little fella drawing Jesus taking care of his dad.

How sad this is; and especially to lose a person who is so young.
We will continue to pray for the family and do let us know if there is a
memorial or if we can contribute towards the 1/2 beef you are giving.

We would do well to take heed in your words in your last paragraph. We never
know what the next moment will bring.
