These are older pictures from late summer/fall but I haven't uploaded them here and with the snow and wind blowing outside I decided to today.
Part of the operation involves milk cows/range cows that are used as nurse cows. Each cow raises at least two calves and some raise four. This year 8 cows raised 22 calves. It involves some time and someone home, but it's nice to have the "extra" calves when they ship out. The cows get pellets and calves are turned in twice a day.
Here's Brock a range cow and her two.
This is Green tag (early calving fall cow) just learning to be a nurse cow. She raised four calves. She had to be put in the stantion and the lower portion of the gate lifted to allow the calves to suck. In a couple weeks she didn't have to have her head caught.
Nurse calves wondering why I'm not coming along on the journey to the barn and just standing there. The two big calves are Brocks. The calves aren't all born at the same time so they aren't real uniform but with having spring calves, fall calves, peewees and such they all seem to fit in some where when it's time to sell.
Annabell relaxing. Annabell's first home was a roping arena and when bought wondered how she would do and now she raises 3 calves a year. She gentle and the kids love her that adds points for her and cake in her tummy!
