Farmers to Receive Record Government Payments
OMAHA (DTN) -- -- Just as attention is being focused on ways to cut the federal budget, USDA reports that government payments to farmers this year are predicted to hit a record-high $24 billion, largely as a result of expected lower commodity prices, the Washington Insider reported.
The previous record was $22 billion. Among the major categories of expected payments are counter-cyclical payments ($6 billion), loan deficiency payments ($4.8 billion) and ad hoc disaster payments ($3.9 billion).
