Canadian Cattlemen's Association

This is the daily update for Tuesday May 17 brought to you by the Canadian Cattlemen's Association and BMO Bank of Montreal. The U.S. Secretary of Agriculture today announced his intention to hold a U.S. beef industry roundtable on June 9 to put all the facts on the table regarding the long-term harm being caused to the U.S. economy by the continued closure of the border to Canadian live cattle. He pointed out the U.S. packing sector has decreased by 8% while the Canadian sector has increased by over 20%. He made his announcement accompanied by the mayor and plant manager in a town in Utah that has suffered job loses because of the border closure. 8% of the US packing sector is a lot bigger than 20% of the CDN packing sector. Probably around 4 times bigger!!!
