The U.S. Secretary of Agriculture today announced his intention to hold a U.S. beef industry roundtable on June 9 to put all the facts on the table regarding the long-term harm being caused to the U.S. economy by the continued closure of the border to Canadian live cattle. He pointed out the U.S. packing sector has decreased by 8% while the Canadian sector has increased by over 20%. He made his announcement accompanied by the mayor and plant manager in a town in Utah that has suffered job loses because of the border closure.
