USDA - 2012 Census of Ag

I just sent mine off. I told them I had 5 cows on 1 acre and I didn't sale any calves last year. Nosy bunch.

Just remember that when filling it out- years down the line that may become a piece of evidence- for or against you.... The government (USDA/FSA) look at all info (everything)- plus your property tax filings for ownership -- if you later file a disaster claim saying you lost numbers of animals/property in a disaster... Or lacked feed for so many cattle because of a drought/disaster and receive feed/pasture payments/assistance .. Or whatever of the thousands of other type claims almost every farmer/rancher files to get government teat money anymore...

Back in the old days when all Montana cattle were on the property tax roles - I can remember a local producer who filed a claim for hay/feed assistance for hundreds and hundreds of head of cattle (probably owned 200-300) --but had only showed on his property tax filings- and only paid taxes on 50 head....One of the things he also forgot was that both the county tax folks- and the USDA folks had access to was the brand inspection records that showed he'd sold 250 head of calves... :???:

And the sad/comical part of the whole situation was that producer was one of the committeemen/board members of the local FSA board...

The standing local joke used to be that the ranchers teased the farmers about the "mailbox roll" in their caps that came from looking into the mailbox waiting for the government subsidy check-- but now over the past 20 years or so- and especially with all the "conservation easement/payments" and Eqip moneys its became the joke that ranchers hat brims have a bigger "mailbox roll" than the farmers caps.... :P  :(

i have no intention of filling it out... but it must be something to sit back and run down the farmers and ranchers of your county that pay the taxes the paid your salary, put food on your table, provided for your life, plus benefits plus retirement. must be something.

Sorry Charlie-- it wasn't me joking back and forth about this-- it was the farmers and ranchers teasing each other....Are you telling me this hasn't happened on your side of the hi-line? Or are you saying that you lie on or agree with lying on your tax filings and USDA disaster applications :???:

Comedy was- as both a wheatfarmer and a cattle raiser/rancher- I could laugh and tease with both....
But I should have known when you present the facts to keep folks out of trouble-- someone naysayer would bench because they were presented with the truth- but weren't mature enough to face it... :(

OT I have never needed any kind of government assistance and just went through the worst drought of my life in 2011. I don't think I will be needing any of there entitlement programs.

I'm the same way. I opted out of the government Tit. My land in Oklahoma has a cotton and wheat base and is eligible for money every year. I got it the first year I owned it but never since. I say it's all WELFARE and AG would be better off if there were no USDA titty at all.

Great B & M-- but in the farming/ranching profession (if that is your occupation) I think you have became a minority...

OT my occupation is a welder who happens to raise cattle too. I was raised on a farm(that i still own) with cattle and plenty of row cropping and learned just how hard it can be. But I never saw my father with his hand out. I did see a neighbor stick peanuts in the ground and never spend another dime on them because the check was coming anyway. It's not right. I made light of the census because in the end it has never changed a thing and in my opinion is a big waste of money.

And the only reason I even commented was to let those that do play the game know that filing false info can come back and bite you in the butt... Most of this info all goes back and forth from one government entity to another- whether it be county treasurer, state revenue, IRS, SSI, USDA, etc., etc. so the old saying holds true- "Oh what a tangled web we weave, When first we practice to deceive"......
