Everything looks good, R A. You are lucky you have some hay to put up. Many ranchers aren't even going to get their haying equipment out this summer unless things change rapidly.

That first rabbit resembles Hay Maker on a Sunday morning.

Slowly, but surely. :D I'm looking forward to feeding hay I did myself to heifers I raised this winter. :D ...kind of a milestone for me on my way up here. :D ...and it feels good to know when I have my team, I can make the small squares I will be pushing off the wagon also. It's going to be a long waiting game before I have any cattle numbers. :( ....getting things in order though.

Prices are dropping like a rock here in southern Mo, you maybe able to slip down here and buy some cheap cows.

Thanks, Soapweed! I know hearing the stories on here is making me think harder on preparing for the future. Part of me is glad to be learning all this on such a small scale. I feel set at the moment for whatever happens this year and that feels good. I thought for a brief second of selling some hay for the first time ever, but am not and am thinking of what else can I put up :D

I wish I could as I am understocked! Really long story short...I don't have two nickels to rub together right now. :D ....and I may never go to the bank again for cattle money :D :D :D I really wish a guy could still build a herd with a horse, some tme, and a long rope. :D

There are 2 bays in your photos that would make a nice light team to feed your cattle with.

Find someone that has a set of harness hanging in a barn and start another learning procedure. :D

That is a great idea! I guess my loads would be pretty light right now. I'll see what I can turn up for using the horses I have. :D I'd love to start this learning procedure!

I'm sure glad somebody is around to look out for Haymaker when I'm busy.

You are showing the best windrows I've seen all season!

We got 320 bales total and 288 came of a CRP field that came out last
fall. Had a lot of 'old stuff' in it, but did have some nice fine stuff too.
It was better than we thought as far as quality, but we will forage
test it.

Then we did the 'cut here and there' to
get some horse hay. Our swather broke down after cutting two bales
worth  and no one around here has parts for a Hesston swather.
Luckily, the young fella that leases our place got his dad to come
over with his swather (since they weren't using it  ) and cut
this little bit (all) we had. And life goes on.............thank God for
good neighbors. :D

Those firecracker pictures are just plain amazing!
Thanks for sharing.

Glad you got some hay put up! I called upon my neighbor as well, before I got my baler working. I was falling way behind on getting the loose hay put up. I hope you get your swather fixed easily!

Say, RA, I have a question. You have pictured on this thread, 2 kinds
of squash. I planted "various varieties" of squash from one seed packet.
I have some that look like the round green one with stripes. What kind
of squash are those? I'm sure these all are summer squash. I've got
some Patty Pans and Zuccinni but I don't know what this variety is.
Thanks for your reply.

Those are neat pics!...thanks for linking them! I was almost going to have to start stacking it outside. I'm curious to know how well the loose hay will keep like that around here and might run an experiment next year or when I get set up with something like that tractor in the pics....on a normal year I might add. :D....would keep fairly well for sure this year, so far anyway :D

The round green thing on still on the vine is a little watermelon. The squash I planted is - straightneck early yellow - squash. I started in picking the squash too late. I've fixed that and pick them earlier now. I've gotten a pile of squash so far. I have to part the squash I've picked to get to the computer or find the tv remote. :D :D My zuccinni has struggled....haven't gotten a one yet.

This being my first gardening experience, I've learned a lot and have made a ton of mistakes! ...can't wait until next year.

A watermelon???? I tried growing watermelon one year. The neighbor gal
insisted the first one was ready to pick. I didn't think so......but I let her
talk me into picking it. That thing wasn't hardly red inside. :p

Well, this year I bought a packet of varied squash, so now I'll have a watermelon, if nothing further happens to my garden. :?

I put it in a stocktank. Everything came up and looked good. The wind
really blew most of the time. I think it blew the leaves off the green
beans. I put the tomato plants out and that night it got to 27 degrees. It really got the tomato plants, so I jerked a couple out and threw them away,
but I left a couple in to see what they would do and they came out of
it and was looking really good. I had bought a few more tomato plants
and replanted them, plus one yellow pepper plant that had blossoms on
it already. I was watering the garden out of the house with RO water as our
regular water is fairly salty. I guess Mr. FH didn't think I was watering
it enough so he took over. He's famous for opening gates and forgetting
about them..............until he sees the cows are out, or the horses are out ...........well, with the garden, he put the hose onto the garden and went off and FORGOT about it, til he remembered.........by then the
big RO holding tank was empty; the garden was flooded and it had
even pushed the side of the tank out, where the seam runs!!!! It was
a mess. Well, we just left it (what else could we do???) Most of
it has come out of it, but the tomato plant with the most tomatoes on
it, is all brown. Oh, the tomatoes are green, but the plant is brown.
Poor thing.

I may not try this again. It just reminds me of why I haven't had a
garden for years in this country.

Oh, that nice pepper plant? It's history. :p

That is a close second to Hay Maker's pack-rat story!

How many bones does Mr. FH have broken?

Debbie wants to know if he still has a side of the bed to sleep on or if it's a mat on the doorstep?

lol...That's some funny stuff :D I've either failed big time on stuff or have a ton of stuff. I waited too long to pick the lettuce. I made a big ol' salad of some of what I picked and jumped in....I made quite a few faces I imagine, but finished the thing....lol....wouldn't want to eat another like it though. :D Figured eating it might make me a better gardener next year. :D I picked a couple watermelon too early myself....chickens loved them. My sweet corn is just a patch of failure. :D I could go on and on...lol....it's been fun though.
