Well, I had to run 40 laps in th gym... endurance testing. Ive had the flu for the last week and a half, but I cowboyed up and went to school.... and came home and went to bed... no hunting, no fun. So I was past my 20th lap, I had to run to the bathroom and puked my guts out. I came out and said what happened and the gym teacher goes, "Blah blah blha, instead of sitting on your lazy arse (not the word he used) you should go outside... you know, theres more to life than computers and TV!!" So I said, in a kind voice, "Sir, I had the flu for the last week and a half. I havent gone hunting mby MY choice since saturday... and I only sat in a blind for an hour and got a ride home. He said, "So thats all you do, sit on the groynd and shoot, get a ride home, watch tv and pig out? " So I said, , "nope, I go home feed cattleclean house, do my homework, walk out to my blinds, which are from 2 1/2-3 miles from the yard, come home, do some more homework and help Dad out. When I hunt, I sit from 1 hour after dark to 1 hour before dark, and walk around to try and get a shot at a bedded deer. If I shot something I have to backpack it out cause a)There's no cell reception, and B)I want to do it like my forefathers." Well, he got madder and madder, complaning that Im lying, and he phoned dad, who told him the exact same thing as I did, but dad added in that I tame 1250 lb beasts (as dad calls them) to walk with me on a lil rope, then he hung up. This guy is really making my life he**. I get along with the other teachers, cause I dont goof off in class, cause the deal was good grades = hunting, bad grades = no hunting. Ive tried every possible thing with this guy, but nothing works!!! What do I do?

Perhaps the gym teacher will think about it and cool down now that he's talked with dad and heard the same answer twice.
Try not to let him get under your skin like water off a duck's back.

He may be having his own set of problems like administrators telling him all students have to be physically fit as shown by how many laps they can run so why isn't he making sure they all perform? Maybe he feels he's failing.

Fortunately gym is just gym- not one of the 3 R's.
Many people do fine in life without ever running anywhere. It's running away from problems that brings them trouble.
So just hang in there- we're rooting for you and know you'll survive just fine like you've been doing for...how many years?

I'm not an exspert but I would suggest that if he doesn't believe u and he doesn't believe ur dad maybe u should invite him along on one of ur "Lazy Days" as he puts it.. and prove to him exactly what u do.. Then u can ask him what is wrong w/ him, why he has a problem w/ u..
NR probably has it right that he's probably havin personal problems and takes it out on the first person that he can...
Hope it gets better for ya.... :-)
If not hang in there you wont be in gym forever

Life is full of gym teachers-you should of puked on the floor-sucked it up and kept running. If you were that sick get a Dr's note-as a coach if you show up your expected to be able to perform. If you have a medical reason you can't that's fine too.

I find playing by the rules at times like these works against you.If he dislikes you already, give him reason too.Make fart sounds when he is talking. Then as loud as you can, without screaming say,"I hope that dont smell".After everyone stops laffing and settles down, say in same vioce,"dang i knew it would smell".Get is his head, tic him off,let the air out of his tires and then be there when he notices and say....."Now that would suck,no-body carries four spare tires".Bring in a bag of chips and a pop to his class. When he says whats that, just say,"well its chips and pop,had i had a longer extention cord,I would of brought my X box 360 too".

Guys like him judge to much, they need to be taken to task.If he keeps hounding you get a friend to video tape him as he belittles you in class. You dont owe him anything but an honest effort,if he cant handle that, then thats on him.No more telling him what you do in your time ,its not his bussiness.Next time tell him to take his muscle magizines ,rice cakes and spa treatments, and shove them up his,(insert whatever word here).

Just remember most GYM teachers are over grown Jocks they have no brains and no real purpose in life. The problem with our country is way to much emphasis on sports and winning and very little on living. We have a 1/2 hour news cast here and they spend 15 minutes talking sports who cares about sports not I.

I think we are missing the main thing here. He is a teacher, just as I have seen all kinds of teachers behave like this. What they teach is unimportant. I've seen science teachers, math teachers, history teachers, grade school teachers and pe teachers berate kids. On the positive, I have seen all different teachers go that extra mile to help kids.

I have seen coaches have athletes sit down and study before they could practice. For some reason some kids will think they are going to be a professional athlete and begin to think nothing else matters. Let me tell you, if you happen to see one kid come out of a school and go pro that will be a miracle. I think the pro athlete syndrom starts at home and then some coaches feed the problem. I think the problem starts when parents are living their dreams through their kids and promote this.

In closing it is not what subject you teach it is HOW YOU TEACH

Man, Denny and Passin thru, I commend you on your posts.
Not enough people think like you do IMO. Sports is totally over worshiped.
Like you said, how many wind up being pros. And how many
high school jocks go on to college and have a tough time because
now they are 'just one of many.' That worship they had through
school is hard on them. It's a tough adjustment.

This is such a common thing throughout the country. Sports
rule!!! It's almost harmful to the kids.

This subject is one of my pet peaves. makes me kinda glad that our school is so small that we don't have a whole lotta sports to choose from. Girls have volleyball and basketball, boys have basketball and baseball(sometimes if there's enuff boys to make a team) Our school doesn't push the sports issue, if you wanna play you can if you don't you don't have to. I think if some of these teachers would take a look at some of these kids personal lives at home, what they do in their spare time, they'd veiw these kids in a whole different light. Small town country kids are way more involved in "life" than most of the teachers are. Might open a few of their eyes if they could take a look.

Here's an example: Lil Lilly played volleyball last year, she wasn't plannin on playin this year, because with afternoon practices it enterferes with her barrel practicing, and raisin critters. Specially after the time changes. She had made up her mind she wasn't gonna play, but the coach asked her if she would because they were not sure they'd have enuff girls to have a team. She agreed, on her own terms. If she has anything to do with barrel racin goin on, she won't be there for practice or games. Not that she'll ever go pro with barrel racin, but she's plannin on goin to a college that has a rodeo team. She has priorities. And I think alotta these teachers just don't think kids their age are old enuff to "know" what they want so they think it's their duty to push them at somethin they may not have that much interest in to start with.

I read in a book once........."There is no such thing as a teacher, only learning. And it's their job to creat an environment where learning takes place" If that environment aint there, the learning won't happen.

I think you nailed it Lilly..............these kids need to take what they are good at and exploit it to pay for college, nothing more nothing less.
A step further is I tell kids..............
what is your objective when you go to college
It is to get good grades so you can get a degree.
So why not try for an academic scholarship and get paid for what you are going to college in the first place for.
Sports scholarships are great...........but they are a job in order to pay for college. Most kids flop in sports scholarships the first year. They can not handle the gruelly work and the meat grinder they are put through. I can tell you many stories.........you see colleges do not rescind sports scholarships as a rule. The athletes quit one way or the other if the college coaches deem you no longer of value to them. I have seen it happen. But if you come out unscathed...................you had a valuable life lesson..............and one tough cookie

Sweety, you got a bad teacher with a bad homelife...Do you have a counsler at school?? Might try that route...Also,don't know if you're boy or girl, but if female, keep a watchful eye out--well. that goes for both,sadly..

This young man's plight has nothing to do with pro sport, nor does his teachers action.Promoting a healthy dose of exercise and teaching young adults the proper way to get the best out of their exercise program,is proactive and a important part of body and mind growth. Not sure why this became a thread to air the "I hate pro sports" laundry? This quite frankly is a story of self confidence of a young man and a closed minded pre determined perception by a person in charge.

This teacher's chosen method of motivation, can manifest into a crippling self confidence issue, that can last a lifetime.Sure there is criteria to be met in a school gym classroom, that is why education must be graded on not only completion of selected curriculum, but also on the effort of each participant. The student must provide a honest effort to learn and there-fore should be rewarded with a passing grade decided by his/her level of criteria met.

He owes this teacher nothing more than that honest effort. He has no need to tell his teacher about chores and his after class activities. It simply is not the teachers business. The father should go down to this school and talk to this teacher about his motivation tactics.I see it all the time, even on this site, people judge and think they know best.Well that maybe true but its not anyone's place to decide another's path .This teacher lacks the one most important thing about dealing with young boys/and girls, and that is "it is better to build a boy then to mend a man"

Reminded of something----When I was much younger, one of the kids I rode with was in a high school football game..After a hard tackle he told the coach he was hurt.. the coach told him he was a crybaby, and to get back in there--the kid yelled to his dad in the stands"I'm hurt" Dad came down, haulde him to Dr. Kid had broken his neck..one more hit,and he'd never have moved again, one way or the other..This was one tough kid, both mentaly and phyiscly..He healed up with no ill effects..

Ok Kiddo...let me at that teacher  Seriously though I really liked Pegs idea,of the school counsler. If not, you mentioned church the other day...ministers are great listeners. And hey if you need a weekend away, you can come down and do some Battle River hunting,we'd love to have you. :)

Nr-I had a dr.'s note, but he said that if Im too sick to run the 3K then I shouldnt be at school, I should be at home, so I had to run anyways. It's the flu..... still feel like crap.

I'll try some of the things, but no tthe councellor.... he IS the councellor. lol.

Mrs.Greg-if I find enough time Ill head your way, but I hear can. res. tags are expensive.

Bob, how much do we owe you for the liberal therapy session? Somewhere I missed the pro sports slant
Passin thru, don't you know nothing..you mentioned pro-sports in your one post :P

I think ACS handled this situation perfectly, and then his father backed him up. All this support is great and will do him some good........but really he took the bull by the horns. I'll just bet that the teacher wishes he had kept his mouth shut. Sometimes it is hard for people like this teacher to say he was wrong but I'll bet he thinks the next time before he jumps.

Full Bore ahead ACS
