Time for my seasonal, semiannual, visit from my Mineral rep.. For the first time I was actually in so I go tot talk to him.. Geuss we are going t swtich over to the 3V0 as soon as my shipment comes in.. Had some other suggestions too and even offered some services that I didn't think about (Nice running into people who know all the byproduct sales people and can "hook you up" with them if you need something.. Most of the local feed places won't  ).. Nice guy, sent him on down to my neighbor who runs loads of cattle... The best part of all of this is that I get to patronize the dealer/elevator who is the easiest to work with..

Hopefully the 3V0 will show up and preform, might save me a bit of money over the 3V5.. Will have to switch off it in late April to deal with Tetney however... Oh well.

I'm so happy you have a good VT rep, alothough I really don't
know a bad one.

Vigortone works on different formulas constantly in order to give their
customers the best products possible. The 3V0 has no phos
because the corn by products contain a lot of phos. Don't worry,
it will perform or it wouldn't be on the product list. It's already
proven itself.

Vigortone spends all of its research on mineral products.
They are a mineral company, not a feed company and there is
a big difference. I'm happy to hear you will continue to work
with you favorite feed store. The support system with Vigortone
is beyond compare, at least that is how we have found it to be.

Appreciate the post, IL Rancher.

One thing was interesting is that I asked about creep feed. now, we don't usually creep feed but I have feeders and have thought about doing it again from time to time... Guess they are working on something with an Ethanol plant to mix up a distillers based creep compbined with their mineral and wheat mids that sounded down right affordable compared to what the elevators wanted for feed.. It was an overall interesting converstation... Guy is a busy guy as he has to go all the way up to Northwestern Wisconins too  which is probably why he doesn't drop in around here much.

It was just interesting overall.. Seemed to have all the time in the world and was full of contacts for me to call if I was looking for *enter anything regarding cattle here*... All in all he said basically "we are a mineral and vitamin company but because of the business we do we meet a lot of folks that we can link together if it will help them"... Nice guy.. Now we will just see how long it takes to get the 1.5 tons of 3V0 I ordered in..

I am getting in 2 ton of the 3VO SCTC used 3v4s for the last year but with all the distillars were feeding we dont need the phos it was $2 per bag cheaper befor the ctc was added but we fed ctc last spring with great results and I would'nt think of skiping it this season.

I'm thinking of having some mixed with either biomoss or Rumenisin in it for direct mixing before calving season kicks off or I would have ordered more... That will jack the price up a bit... We have e-coli problems from time to time and cocci is always a concern.. Trying to figure out what we will do, have a month before I have to order again probably so I will have it figured by than... I think the biggest fixer of our e.coli problem from last year will be the 45 day calving period and calving during a time when we move the cattle are moving more often.

Nope... Don't think so.. The minerals we have used here in the past were moorman's (which we got out of Quincy) for 1 year, than they went up 300 bucks a ton, Kent and than some local blended stuff.... Oh, I used something from Hubard feeds once or twice before we got lots of cattle.. Mostly Kent and a blend from various mills (Used to buy with the neighbor to save a little money, but don't like his mineral so much anymore, stuff is too fine and blows away).. sorry can't be of any help Jigs.

I don't know yet Redbull. I was told it would be cheaper than the 3v5 (Hey, niffty new bags by the way, lol) that I was using.. I will know next week but it is going to vary from region to region with what freight is going to cost. I am only 80 miles from the factory or something like that.

Your answer was right on, ILrancher.
Freight changes the price that's for sure.

The 3V0 should be very reasonable. Phos is the most
expensive ingredient in mineral.

The 3V0 is 20% calcium. I have some independent research that shows
increased weight gain in the feedlot by feeding more calcium so
the extra amount of calcium in the 3V0 should be helpful as well.

On that same note, some feedlots aren't feeding any phos at all
to their cattle.
