You must remember when beef prices are high people have other markets to go to chicken,pork,processed proteins,fish. Grains are used in so many items that if the base grain price went up on corn all other avenues of corn would rise as well. Some things just can't replace it as it is used in so many things, how much corn syrup is used in processed goods? Billions of pounds a year! It goes out by millions of gallons from ADM corn sweetner plants by the tankerfull on train cars. This market would be cut into if ethanol continues to be in demand. What would giants like Coke and pepsi do to the price of just pop? Let alone all other processed foods that have corn syrup in them? A box of corn flakes could hit 8.00 a box and then people would have to find other alternatives or we would be improting corn in from other countrys and soybeans from South America as well.
