The price of milk replacer has skyrocketed because of the
cost of ingredients.
I ordered some to have on hand and when I checked the
cost, I was shocked!!! My only choice is to sell it at cost
and hope the producers understand.

So do what you can so you don't need to buy milk replacer!

Yep... noticed that the when I bought a bag just a few weeks ago.. Got the bill in the mail and my jaw dropped.. Thought it was just that Vigortone was more expensive than what I was used to.. Than went to farm stores and all the 100% milk protein replacer is up 10-15 bucks a bag.. Used to cost just a touch more than the stuff with soy protein but that stuff has barely budged... Wish that stupid calf we were nursing would start eating some solids already... Although she is only 1.5 months old she is sucking that milk down like a champ...

I have a heifer that lost her calf and swiped another so one calf has 2 mom's I am leaveing this incase we have a set of twins last year I let a cow dry up early than later I had a set of twins that the cow ended up raiseing both.

Gonna keep my fingers crossed in hopes that I won't need any milk replacer. (oh, I'm knockin on wood too) Love baby calves......that their own mama raises. I don't wanna hafta bottle raise anymore!!!!

We use Nurse Trate ADM Allliance Nutrition and it went up 8 dollars a bag compared to last year. The fair projects are gonna be a little more costly this year.

With baby calves selling for $250-300 the longest I'd even think of feeding one is until the next weekly sale, if I couldn't sell it on the daily Tradio program first- and I have about 25 lbs of replacer still from last year that should handle it...

I bought a 50 lb bag today for about $45. Seems to me that isn't much more than I had to give last year. It's a new kind that Lextron in Sturgis just started handling. It's made by Aspen Veterinary Resources out of Liberty, Mo and near as I can tell from the tag its all milk protein.

Vigortone recommends you feed one bag of milk replacer per calf
and then go to their VigorKalf R pellets. Those pellets are dynamite
for a calf. They are specially milled so the calf utilized all the
pellet. Doesn't take much per calf, seems like a pound is all.
I've never seen bottle calves perform like those do on
Vigortone Milk Replacer (whole milk replacer) and the VigorKalf
R pellets. Our customers are pretty soft and they run 2 bags of
milk through the calves.

We haven't had to use Milk Replacer for years. Lucky us!!!!

Milk replacer has gone up about 25%in the last two weeks here. Don't have any idea why except fuel has gone up and along with that goes everything else..... Last year you couldn't afford to buy calves.... This year you can buy the calves but can't afford the feed!!!!!!!!!
