If you want to know what you have coming down the pike at you Here is what just happened. I had a tour come into the gallery, there was two small boys with their mother and grandparents on the tour. They enjoyed my yard and played for a bit then left to continue the rest of the guided tour. 1/2 hour later they were back, turns out one of the little boys was running at the next stop on the tour and fell breaking his collarbone. They came back to my house to get help. I called the area health center and told them what had happen and was told that there was NO DOCTOR. I asked if the other area health center had a doctor on call and was told No the doctor there would not be in town until Tues. This is Saturday and there will not be a doctor within 60 miles until TUESDAY. The little boy was in so much pain he wouldn't let even his mother touch him and all we could do for him is give him a tylenol and send him in the direction of his home which ment 90 miles to the nearest hospital. That is Universal Health care Sask Style. GOOD LUCK and stay safe and healthy.

Gee there are plenty of places in the United States that you have to drive ninety miles to see a doctor. And not just on the weekend either.

So- None of the Clinics down here in this area have a Doctor available from Friday thru Monday morning... If you need treatment for an injury or are ill- you have to go to a regional Hospital ER...And even there the Drs. and many of the Lab/X-Ray are available only on an On-Call basis....Some of the smaller hospitals have no one on weekends...

And most our rural clinics are more than 60 miles apart- let alone the Hospitals that are 100's of miles apart in some instances...And if a specialist is needed- its an air ambulance flight to a major hospital- Billings or Great Falls....

Tam- you better move to Regina or Calgary or some place so you can get all your "little comforts"... This is the rural west where everything isn't right at hand at the drop of a hat....

Didn't the Plentywood Hospital have a Dr. available? Or did these folks not want to pay the US health care costs ?

OMGAWD do you really believe in 2009 a child with a brokencollar bone only needs a "littel comfort"
hmmmm I hope none of your grandchildren require the need of a Dr and your told sorry No Dr till Tues............You would be OUTRAGED

Considering what we have in our emergency room that are supposed to pass for doctors... :(

I'm not talking about my comforts you idiot I'm talking about a LITTLE BOY that was out spending the day with his grandparents, mother and brother. When they came here I doubt they figured they would be dealing with the LACK OF ACCESS TO HEALTH CARE. If the little boy would have had a passport I might have suggested he be taking 35 miles to the US HOSPITAL as I now he could have got the treatment he needed there even if they did have to call somebody in to take care of him.

These health center we have WERE area hospitals until they were down graded by our government Oldtimer. And the emergency room is in those so called health centers. And if a doctor had been ON CALL he/she could have been at the emergency room to greet the little boy. But there wasn't one IN THE AREA on call for emergencies and this is what we have to deal with more times than not.

First they probably didn't have their passports with them to be able to go to Plentywood.
Coronach and Bengough are on two, sides of a big coal mine and power plant. Both place have old folks homes and newer hospital buildings and both have been without regular doctors for quite awhile.

Where are you going to find more, Alice?

to cover the 45 million that are going to be covered under the new Health Care reform, if you can't find qualified ones now?

Tam--We deal with it all the time-- and have been for years....

Too bad about the little boy- but he will live with the broken collar bone...Believe me I know...You sound like the incident got you all hypered up...
You need to sit back have a shot of good Canadian Rye or glass of wine or borrow one of Sages tranquilizers....

Do you have your liability insurance paid up? I'd call my attorney anyway the way these insurance companies can wiggle out of everything anymore...

Your right Hypo, What about when they go on strike for higher wages?

Or leave the country and go to places where they can charge what they want.

BMR, this kid's parents?

How would they have been billed and how much, if you and Tam had found a hospital to go to in Canada?

US costs or Canadian subsidized costs?

Thing is- many are tied up providing chronic care treatment for people without insurance that didn't seek early treatment- and treating these folks when they get so bad they end up at the emergency room....

One of the lead parts of the proposed Health Care Plan is providing much more educational opportunities and tuition assistance/relief for Health Care provider students of all levels-- Drs., nurses, lab, X-ray, etc.... Including ramping up the number of colleges/universities/community colleges providing the training-- which could benefit Canada too...

To bad may be everyone needs to move to the USA with the healthcare we have. If you are one of the uninsured then you will be sent to one of the charity hosiptals, like Parkland in Dallas. Everyone is not treated here in every hospital. You will have to get there on your on. If you do not have insurance they will send you on to somewhere. They will not take a check. You have to show that you are finicaial able to pay.

so you are already covering the cost s of those that do not pay for insurance?

or are you saying that you already have the best Health care in the world.

Why would you want to change that?

we pay for ambulances (transportation) over and above our Health care coverage in Canada also.

How many other businesses do you know that provide free service?

Did you bother to read what I posted :? First you commented about my comforts when it was an injuried little boy and now you are saying I need to check with my attorney when I posted the little boy was gone from our yard when he was hurt. THEY CAME BACK TO GET HELP.

Does the fact the little boy could not get access to health care within a reasonable timeframe put me responible for his pain Oldtimer? If I could have done more than provide his mother with one tylenol that was cut in half I would have but I doubt what I did would constitute anything I need to contact an attorney for. Maybe in the US but I doubt it here in Canada.

BTW unlike you, I find no reason or need for a drink.

Sounds to me like the main problem is not enough professionals in the medical provider field- or being utilyzed in the right way-- and not a problem of the form of insurances so much (government or private)...
That sounds like the problem that needs to be addressed- the same as it is with enough Veterinarians...
That is one reason I've really liked Obamas plans to make secondary and continuing education easier for students to access....

I try to avoid allot of posts on this board because I don't really think it does any good. I live rural O.T. and have all of my life. And yes if you are injured bad enough most of these little hospitals have to transport you to a bigger center but there is always a Dr. on call. As for making more teaching hospitals where do you get the professors and doctors to man them? One thing that would help quite a bit is to stop treating every illegal for whatever is wrong with them, ship them home. I have heard so much about Obama and what his great vision is but have yet to see him live up to anything he said to get you america haters to vote for him. Just when did we leave the just when did we quit being the land of the free and the home of the brave and turn into the land of government has to take care of me?

   well said weed!!!!
