This week in livestock feeding we're working on the feed value of these two popoular feed stuffs. My question is how we would go about figuring out what percent water these feeds are as fed. It's not as simple as the difference between the total percentage of the feed (100%) and the dry matter (88% for ex.), or is it? Thanks for the help.

As Fed usually = DM + water
eg: 100 pounds silage at 55% moisture is 45 pounds of DM and 55 pounds of water.

Depends on when and where the corn comes from. Out of the bin now probably between 14-18%. Some feedlots here put up a lot of high moisture corn during harvest from 20-35% moisture.

Around here you can sell it without being docked at 15% alot was coming out of the fields here at 13% this year. I bought 500 buschels at 18% from aq friend of mine I paid him market price for 15% moisture just for easy figureing.
