Waylon

I couldn't believe they drug that yearling bull out with just 1 foot, and he was tied on hard. I would have cut his rope.

'Watched the whole thing and liked it a lot. I like Waylon better than I did before, too.

I wonder how long ago this was filmed? My guess is, quite awhile. Even though few of us have followed the wagon like on those big outfits, we sure understand the work and nature of it all.

As far as the yearling bull, I'm surprised that someone didn't come in and catch his head. That looked like a wreck waitin' to happen.

Thanks.

That was a good show. Thanks for posting the link, LazyWP. As far as the yearling bull being roped by one leg, it looked more like a wreck that was happening rather than a wreck waiting to happen.

I enjoyed the movie too, looked as if the work got done regardless of how. The bull roping could have been staged for the show.

Thanks for posting WP.

From what I can tell the video was done in about 78. I was kinda hoping some of the guys down in Texas would chime in and fill in some of the details, such as if the ranch was still going, and all that.
I'm glad you all enjoyed it. I thought it was good.

My choice of words wasn't nearly as accurate as yours Soapy!

The bull "action piece" was undoubtedly a scene that could have been edited out, but was left in for an element of excitement and to show that the work can be dangerous. However, as an accurate depiction of cowboy proficiency, that may have been the biggest disappointment in the movie for me.

I was surprised that Waylon got to run a branding iron. To me, that job should be reserved for a senior member of the crew. He should have been rassling instead! But I realize that as the dignitary, they were honoring him as best they could.

The 1970's era would have been my guess too.

You need to help brand over in this part of the county!! They hand irons to yuppies that wouldn't be anywhere close to bovines on the other 364 days of the year, then they use 7 different brands, with pink, purple, red, yellow, white, and blue ear tags. Just try to tell the difference between pink and purple, when the sun is shining through them, and you are fending for your life, cuz there are a bunch of wanna be ropers sending ropes under your horse.
I don't go to that branding anymore, even though its the closest one to me.

Wouldn't have wanted to hurt those million $ pickin' fingers.

Texas is a big state, I never roamed much in west Tx, but the Kokernut name is pretty well known through out the state.
I remember one of the girls was a news reporter for a San Antonio TV station, good movie clip thanks for posting it, looks like typical Ranch work to me, most just do in with less hands on smaller places.
good luck
