Today was the day where I found out if I actually could run an embryo transfer program!

We were trying to superovulate two cows for research purposes with hopes of breeding nine recipients and we would cull the cows whom did not end up pregnant. As I am not officially a vet we did this under a vets supervision one day and he just turned us loose. We were using reused CIDR's and were having lots of problem with them staying in the recips but these aren't the typical cows as they live in a feedlot pen... plus sometimes i think we are breeding the crazy genes the cows were a little fun to work with... all in all it didn't look good with all the problems we were having...

Well today when we flushed the cows we got 29 embryos from one cow and 7 from the other. The 29 were not all good and we ended up with 20 good to excellent embryos for transfer... so now it ends up that we can transfer into the recipients three times if we really wanted too! The vets helped us with the flushing and transferring but all in all it was good to know that its actually pretty robust and it still works when you have two green students doing the protocol.

Anyways just thought I would share as I was super excited. Hope everyone else is having a great day... now if only the rain would stay away and I can go play some baseball!
