We finished weaning calves today.

We got them home, weighed them, vaccinated them, and I'm their "mom" now!

Man it looks dry up there. Have you weighed them yet? Are they about average or are they light because of the drought?

Gosh Mike I thought it was starting to green up after the last rain. :shock: That pasture is probably due north of where BRG's dad got you stuck. The cattle weighed good roughly about 525 on 80 head from that pasture. Most of the calves are late March or April calves. I think weights are probably hanging in about average but we haven't exactly weaned this early before.

Your country looks amazingly like some of ours.
We have lots of "Brushy coulees" plus a little Badlands.

Pretty good looking steed tied to the side of the race horse wagon. Country looks tough. From what I can see though the cows made it pretty well.

You have nice looking country lazy ace, even if it is dry. Glad to see that your weaning weights are still good for as dry as it's been. Your 205 wts., and WDA must still be real good. Good looking cattle too.

that pasture is about ten miles to the east of our place. I would give anything to have those draws north of the place to winter cattle in.

I am going to help work cattle in a scenic area tomorrow AM, but I don't have the digital cameral with me unfortunately. Maybe next time.

Funny to me you fellas have thousands of acres of open range land and all you want to talk about is brush. Come down here and I'll show you brush. It's the open land that is of any value.

Red Robin, you have probably not experienced a good old fashioned South Dakota wind chill. Or a butt kicking spring blizzard. That is where the country like lazy ace posted really shines. The hunters are sure competing for that brushy country right now too.

I havn't tap but I have experienced a very sore backside from bushoging pastures every year and spraying to control brush. I sure like that open , native range.
