Is it just my imagination or have others noticed that cows will take on a lot more hay for a couple of days before really cold weather hits? And then back off for a day or two before warm weather arrives? :???:

They have been cleaning up more than usual for the past few days.

Cattle behaviors are interesting to watch over time. Any other observations you've made?

I had calves come a running and bucking this morning and young bulls fighting.

It was a nice warm sunny day. :D :D :D

Yep bulls fighting-- and some of the cows walked away from the hay/straw I'd rolled out and went out grazing...

Pickup thermometer showed 45 once today :D

We po folk are highly tuned-in to this sort of thing, so we can feed accordingly throughout the day and be able to keep going..... :D :D :D Refering to me, not you... :D

Hand feeding small amounts of hay like I do, 2 or 3 times a day, I'm always feeding more or less according to what I'm reading from them. I love reading animals and getting to know them.

My brahma's were way more sensitive about everything and were real fun to spend the days with.

The cold days mine were eating an extra 2 bales now they are back to normal and yesterday I shorted them one as they had plenty yet to be consumed. TMR mixture stays the same no matter what. And our youngstock was feeling spry yesterday.
