I piled out at 6:00 when my alarm went off with a blast. After the usual pancakes, eggs, bacon, and half an orange, I went outside. Dad had already rode Jig a little before breakfast, so she was all warmed up and acting better than usual. I brought in the calves, unsaddled, and went up to the house to get ready for school.

In Band, we worked out of marching books. John forgot his horn so Mr. Phipps let him try his hand at directing. Mr. McKay was in an excellent mood during Typing class. He let us talk ever so softly.

Australia was the topic of Geography. It sounds like a very interesting country—one that I would someday like to visit. By the way, Sarah Fairhead has a pen pal from Australia. He is 14 years old. Judging by his picture, he is a cute little fellow that looks like he could be Davy Jones' double.

Mr. Card gave us a bunch of equalities and inequalities to write out three times apiece. This required two sheets of paper using both the fronts and backs. We went over some biological definitions in Science. Ernie Bennett taught me how to tie a hackamore knot on the side. He also slipped me a generous supply of candy.

Dinner consisted of buns, celery, chocolate pudding, and a tuna casserole that Ken absolutely abhors. He filled up on buns and pudding, so made it through the day. I read during noon hour.

I am getting kind of desperate trying to get another notebook for my next month's diary. [Rhodes' Red and White grocery store was evidently sold out.] Mrs. Jess lives in Gordon and drives back and forth, so I asked her to get me one. Literature class went along as usual. We just pulled into Chapter 5.

John, McKay, and I drove in Driver's Ed. I drove out to the three-mile crossing west of town, got on the old road, and drove to Belsky's turn-off before getting back on Highway 20. We went west past the Irwin turn-off and stopped to look over the scene of the accident where Ross Haines was killed. Then we came on back to town and up to the school.

In Phys Ed, Ken and Ernie played John and I in a game of basketball. I also ran a mile on the track before getting dressed to come home.

A stop for mail and groceries was the only interruption on the trip homeward. I changed clothes and had a sandwich after we arrived.

I got in a cow that was calving, using Hawk Eye who was saddled with Dad's saddle. I then put a gate lever on the gate at the southeast corner of the heavy lot. We brought in the heavies and sorted out a few to put in the barn. The weather is clear, but quite cold—about 10 degrees. I fed the bulls as Lloyd was getting in a bull that got through the gate while he was driving the tractor and sled through. We put out a little salt in the heavy lot and came in for supper.
