Today was very hot for this time of year, and the temperature got up to at least 99 degrees. I hauled three cows and a bull to the Martin sale this morning, and somehow it took most of the rest of the day to get back home. :? At 8:30 p.m. the thermometer read 75 degrees, which is a warm evening. About twenty minutes ago a gust of wind blew through, and the wind guage on the desk registered 25 miles per hour. The wind blew in hot air out of Texas or some point south, and now at 9:45 p.m. the temperature has gone back up to 88 degrees. I don't believe in global warming, but there are too many politicians blowing too much hot air, and it is affecting our weather. :???:

This whole year has been out of whack. Heard on the radio a couple days ago we had 75 days of 90+ temps this summer and we hit 94 today. Have one more day of 90temp and then they are calling for 65 on Thursday. We also have a 60% chance of rain for the rest of the week. Hopefully some of this heads north for you guys also.

I'd describe our weather as being just nice. We've had a couple mornings of frost but not too much wind and no snow so far. It's way to late for rain to do us any good so I kinda quit hoping. I looked up our record low and high for the town I'm close to since 1948 and the record high happened twice in 1954 and 1971 at 94F. The record low is -45 in 1951.

Just got home from a late night at my other job. Glad we got the greenfeed baled about 20 minutes before all hell broke loose. Cold front blew in from Alberta. Temp was around 75 to 80 today. Dropped to 55 very quick, felt like a winter storm coming in. Started raining and wrapped it up with 45 mile an hour winds, gusting ( ya right, perpetual ) gusts to 60 miles an hour.

Not needed at this time of year. Canola growers are going to need to rent V-rakes for their swaths. As bad as it is, I am still glad we are on the wet side. Being in a drought like some of you are would be alot worse. I will never forget how trying that was.

Almost had a frosty pumkin out here this mornin. 34 at 5 am and headed for the mid 70s this afternoon. It has been a dry and hot sun of a gun, but last night we had storms roll through that brought us almost a quarter inch! :D I'm happier than a long tailed bobcat to not see dust as i drove to work at my day job! :D

Was 93 on sat, 75 yesterday and windy. Was supposed to freeze last night so covered the garden...was 41 F :? Better safe than sorry I guess. It did get to 32 in Baker Valley where they record the temps. We are always 5 - 10 degrees than they are. Sure wish our dust would get settled.

In the 90's yesterday with 30 mph winds- cold front hit during the night and 41 this morning....Supposed to have temps in 60's today but still have a fire warning because of the predicted 30mph winds...
Frost warning for tonight...At the north place we've already had a heavy frost...
No rain in the forecast--BUT the good news is that the forecast for the rest of the week is temps in the 60's and 70's.. Much better than those 90's...

Soapweed, I believe what you experienced was a "heat burst".

http://www.kcci.com/weather/Rare-heat-burst-just-occurred-in-Iowa/-/9358602/12537222/-/2misjxz/-/index.html

A heat burst is a rare atmospheric phenomenon characterized by gusty winds and a rapid increase in temperature and decrease in dew point. Heat bursts typically occur during nighttime hours and are associated with decaying thunderstorms.

Supposed to be in the mid 90's here the next 2-3 days then cool off on friday with a 60% chance of rain but we had a 60-70% chance last friday and received a 1/10!
The ponds are very low and some already dry if we don't have some decent rain this fall it's going to be really bad!

We've had 3 good rains that are pulling us out of the drought. Temps in the 70-80's and lows in mid 40's to low 50's. Sure feels like fall, just curious how long til that first frost hits....

Frost on the windshields this morning as the sun came up...

the experts say we could have our first frost in the morning. i sure hope so, we could sure use the moisture.

Yep-- I know where you are coming from... My trucker called this morning and said he was finally ready to haul off the last of the hay bales this morning (been busy trying to get everything harvested/combined before he hauled anything)- which as soon as we got them unloaded I opened the pastures up to the hay fields/stubble fields-- which will put some good weight on the calves....

Some of those dryland hay fields had so much alfalfa regrowth with the grass- I was a little nervous turning cows in there- until a week or so ago- and a north country frost-along with todays took away a lot of the worry of alfalfa problem......
With those hayfields - and wheat stubble a foot tall- those old cows will think they died and went to heaven when they finally find out I opened all the gates for them to get in there ....... :)

But right now the majority of the cows are a mile or two away-- but luckily still have some good grass- altho it is dry....

Some of that dry shortgrass puts on more weight than the green stuff...

I will send you some more warm air this winter if you will send me some cold air this summer.
