Western Canadian Wheat Board

Well im just in here having lunch when low and behold they annouced on the radio<AM770> that the Wheat Board has just cut over a half a million dollars in special checks.

Are you sure it wasn't some kind of odd gag? I can't seem to find mention of it anywhere. Its possible the papers didn't get it stuck up on websites yet though....

And BMR, I have no double standard. All I want for producers is the best, and if you really take a look at some of my earlier posts, you'll notice I've made mention of single desk marketing for livestock. One strong voice for producers OR hundreds of purchasers for their product in a genuine price discovery climate is whats needed, not this supposed "free market" economy with only a couple multinational companies raping the producer for all they're worth.

And as far as being attacked by my words, all I'm being attacked by is a cheap politician's trick of quoting out of context. Perhaps you should stick to debating the points of this particular thread.

I heard about the "Stress bonuses" as well. Just on the radio.

Rod bring what you said then.

I am not in favor of single desk selling for cattle.PERIOD.
we have been fighting that for years.

Well here's the thread:

http://ranchers.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=6937&highlight=auction

And here's the opening line. You can really tell I'm all in favor of it, can't you?

"Had a random thought cross my mind today while I was working, so I thought I'd pop it onto the forum.

Since people have asked for my opinion on how to fix what I think is a broken cattle market, lets try this idea on for size. Like I say, it was a random thought, nothing fleshed out, so poke some holes in it."

Here's another quote from later on:

"The sale barn idea may not have been all that great, but I posted it to get other people's ideas."

Yep sure am heavily entrenched in that hypothetical I posted.

Here's another one:

"Should sale barns prove out to be a better free market mechanism, and from some of the good arguements in this debate they likely aren't ideal,"

Do I need to go on or can we skip the cheap politician crap and get back to the subject at hand?

These checks are for the wheat boards beaurocrats and the reason for the checks is because of all the stress they are under because of Harpers Conservative government!
Honest to God im not making this up!!!!!!!!!!
Really they are taking money from farmers at Christmas time to give to these sniveling servents because they are under stress!!!!!!
Just my oppinion but F-The wheat board
Time for it to go! Maybe these laid off Wheat Board workers can get a job in Ottawa
Hope the government sends me a $1000.00 cheque for Christmas. This Wheat Board thing and low cattle prices are getting me a little stressed  Like a lot of other people on this site I don,t grow wheat any more, most crops go throught a cow or feeder. But I do notice that the Wheat Board has many more options to market your grain than they did 30 years ago when I started. Farmer pressure has forced these changes (yet slow but changing ) and maybe dual market will work.

Perhaps some of our American neighbours in the northern states could list what the current elevator price on high protein spring milling wheat is currently. I'm willing to bet that it's considerably higher than the CWB initial price for #1 HRSW high protein. Sure we'll get price adjustments and a final payment (if we wait for two Christmases to pass!!!). We still will come out short at a time when input costs are at alltime highs! Most producers have already voted by growing pulse crops, canola, oats or by seeding their land back to grass and raising cattle. We have scaled our cash crop acres back considerably and probably will quit growing wheat altogether. I think it's time to open up the system to dual marketing and allow those that wish to pursue marketing opportunities the chance to sell their own produce as they see fit. The CWB will still be there for those that want to sell into a regimented, highly regulated system!

You are definately one of a kind. If you would get up before noon you would have likely heard this announcement on the radio. The CWB is giving all of its employees $1000 Cheque. I wonder if the the fella that got axed the other day will get one. I am all for dual marketing on Wheat. Give us all the option, the Wheat Board wont have an easy ride if they dont match up to the rest they will fall or have to cut a bunch of high priced jobs that they really dont need.
