With the weather you all to the south have been having, you probably can't believe the way things have been here in our area lately. We have had some cold spells, but for the most part it has been real mild. This morning was -8 deg. F., then it got up to 33 deg. mid day. And here was the scene just after lunch time. This was not on us, but about ten miles from here.

I heard it may have burned 150 acres possibly. If it would have been any windier, it would have been way worse. Good thing this fire was not yesterday, as we had 50 mph winds then.

Tap; You definately need a bit of snow; January is not a time when you'd expect a range fire. The way our wind has been blowing the last few days maybe you will get some of our snow as it has definately been blowing right out of our country and in your direction!

Any idea how it started? It was only 26 above here today, a person would worry about the darn pumps freezing up going to and from the fires. Guess a person could put some of that rv antifreeze in the tanks, might work. Looks like some decent grass got burned. Too darned early for prairie fires! It would have been a disaster if it had happened yesterday.

No fires here. We've had a about three feet of snow and haven't seen bare ground since Dec. 19th in NE Colo. Hope you get some snow soon!

 Wow...Kind of early for that huh.A fire wouldn't go anywhere around here, guess theres a blessing in snow

Where in heck is that at? You talk about bad weather to the south. So somewhere north is dry and warm? Can't read the license plate. Doesn't look like canadian power lines.

I cannot say for sure how it started, but it was more than likely human caused. I have an idea, but I don't think it would be right to say yet.

The temp was just warm enough that the pumps kept working, but they mostly kept them idling so as to circulate the water.

Horseless, I am in NW SD. I would not say that it has been sun tanning weather, but we have had very little snow this winter, and it was up to the low sixties here just last week. Today it would not burn as we had a skiff of snow overnight, and it is down to 8 degrees here right now. But as it warms up in the day time with low humidity, unless we get some more snow, it will be back to where it would burn again.
