I've never seen a 2 point deer be that big bodied. You grow em different up there. If that deer was in Oklahoma it would have 14 points and still be smaller. AWESOME DEER!
Thanks!
He was onyl a year and a half old, just a wee whopper haha. We brought him into work the other day, I boned him out yesterday and I got 47lbs. of usable meat off of him. Mmmm... sausages haha.
I guess I better post the story, not just a quick blurb, eh? haha.
After a long day at school, my friend, Cam, and I, took the bus home. We called Riley and Carson to see if they wanted to come out hunting, for this may be the last chance we had to go out together, as they all graduate this year. Walking into the house, Cam and myself were anxious to get going, hunting is in our blood. After a few buns and coffee, Riley and Carson showed up. Riley had his father's bow, and I had mine. the other two don't do archery, but had come along for the ride. I got some arrows on sale really cheap, so we were shooting at muskrats for fun. Then we realized it was the last day of mule deer season for the bow, and I didn't get drawn for a rifle tag. With that, we headed north, to my absolute favourite haven, that I and only I know how to get to. The land surrounding it is posted and I had permission to go through all of it, and hunt. We were just having fun, the four of us, driving around in the truck, talking about the good times in the past and more to come. Heading up a hill on a back road, I spotted movement about 250 yards away. Feeling stupid for staying in my halloween costume, a rifle hunter, I, along with the other three crept up to him, inching, hardly moving. An easy 15 yard broadside shot, but I was cold, and had buck fever, haha. As I drew back slowly, I said a quick prayer for a quick clean kill. As I let my arrow loose, I watched the 125 gr. Muzzy broadhead go in through him, I must have flinched, it hit him too far back in the guts. He buckled and bounced. Riley and I ran to the other side of a bush in hopes up us cutting him off, but we were too late. I knew where he was going, and he wasn't going far. We snuck into the heavy bush, catching a glimpse of him twenty yards ahead of us. He was bedded down. This time, I drew my bow back, and held the pin on his neck, the only available shot, I had to take it. I was afraid he would take off if I didn't. So I let loose. My arrow flew true this time and struck him in the neck, killing him instantly. (Later, whiel skinning him, I realized that the arrow did in fact, go through the neck bone, we were all pretty amazed about it haha)I turned around, and Riley, beside me was grinning. He held out his hand for the congradulatory handshake. I shook his hand, and said, "I think I got the biggest goodie trick or treating today, huh? We al laughed as we dragged him out of the bush to load him onto the truck. when I got home, everyone was smiles, Since it was a school night, we had to stay up late and have our party for first deer of the year on friday.
Thanks to everyone who has given me help with this, I started bow hunting last year, and Dad didn't know much about it.
Take care, and God bless.
