What are some songs that make you cry...

Friends, this is Tex Ritter with a strange story about a soldier boy and a deck of cards.
During the North African campaign, a bunch of soldier boys had been on a long hike and they arrived in a little town called Casino. The next morning being Sunday, several of the boys went to church. A sergeant commanded the boys in church and after the Chaplin had read the prayer the text was taken up next. Those of the boys who had a prayer book took them out. But this one boy only had a deck of card and so he spread them out. The sergeant saw the cards and said, "Soldier, put away those cards." After the services were over the soldier was taken prisoner and was taken before the provost marshal. The marshal said sergeant, "Why have you brought this man here?" "For playing cards in church, Sir." "And what do you have to say for yourself son?" "Much, Sir" replied the soldier. The Marshal said, "I hope for if not, I shall punish you more than any man was ever punished." The soldier said, "Sir, I have been on a march for six days and I had neither bible or prayer book, but I hope to satisfy you, Sir, with the purity of my intentions." With that the boy started his story.

You see sir when I see the Ace, it reminds me that there is but one God. And the deuce reminds me the bible is divided into two parts, the Old and the New Testament. And when I see the three, I think of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost. When I see the four, I think of the four evangelists who preached the gospel, there was Mathew, Mark, Luke and John. And when I see the five it reminds me of the five wise virgins who trimmed their lamps. There were ten of them, five were wise and were saved and five were foolish and were shut out. And when I see the six it reminds me that in six days God made this great heaven and earth. And when I see the seven it reminds me that on the seventh day God rested from his great work. And when I see the eight, I think of the eight righteous people God saved when he destroyed this earth. There was Noah, his wife, their three sons and their wives. And when I think of the nine, I think of the leapers our savior cleansed and nine of the ten didn't even thank him. When I see the ten, I think of the ten commandments God handed down to Moses on a table of stone. When I see the king, it reminds me that there is but one king in heaven, God all Mighty. And when I see the queen, I think of the Blessed Virgin Mary, who is queen of heaven. And the Jack or knave is the Devil.

When I count the number of spots of a deck of cards I find three hundred and sixty-five, the number of days in a year. There are fifty-two cards, the number of weeks in a year. There's four suits, the number of weeks in a month. There's twelve picture cards, the number of months in a year. There are thirteen tricks, the number of weeks in a quarter.
So you see, Sir, my deck of cards serves me as a Bible, almanac, and prayer book. And friends I know that story is true cause I knew that soldier.

Jan Arden has a song called "I Would Die For You". I'm sure this wasn't what she had in mind when she wrote it, but one year I was watching a Remembrance Day ceremony and she sang it.

It's a beautiful song to begin with, but it took on a whole new meaning in this setting. To see the faces of veterans old enough to be great grandfathers with tears rolling down their cheeks listening to her sing was so emotional it's hard to describe. These were men of the past, from a time when you kept your feelings to yourself, and a brave face was the most important thing to keep up, and she reduced them to tears.

It was something I will never forget. Ever.

That's what I love about this list. Our little family can actually express emotion. And we all "get it" Kinda funny when you think of the reputation of the "cowboy" Nice to see the human side and that everyone feels comfortable enough to be honest when it comes to our emotional side. There are some fantastic songs on this list!

I can't ever remember shedding a tear because of a song. There are two where I guess I could possibly and one where I will.

The first is Amazing Grace because I sang my oldest to sleep singing that song . She always had a hard time sleeping and wanted me to sing.

The second is "It is well with my soul" because of the tragic story behind the song.

The last is the wedding march played at my little girls weddings. This song will get me I guarantee you.

What's the song about the man and his horse in the snowstorm trying to get home and he dies only a few feet from the house???? Now that is a real tear jerker.......

Jim Reeves | THE BLIZZARD Lyrics

There's a blizard coming on, how I'm wishing I was home,
For my pony's lame, and he can hardly stand.
Listen to that norther sigh, if we don't get home we'll die.
But, it's only seven miles to Mary Ann's.
It's only seven miles to Mary Ann's.

You can bet we're on her mind, for it's nearly supertime
And I'll bet there's hot bisquets in the pan.
Lord, my hands feel like there froze,
And there's a numbness in my toes.
But, it's only five more miles to Mary Ann's.
It's only five more miles to Mary Ann's.

That wind's howling and it seems
Mighty like a woman's scream.
And we'd best be moving faster if we can.
Dan just think about that barn,
With the hay so soft and warm.
For it's only more miles to Mary Ann's,
It's only three more miles to Mary Ann's.

(Spoken with instrumental background)
Dan get up you ornery cuss, or you'll be the death of us.
I'm so weary, but I'll help you if I can.
Alright Dan, perhaps it's best, if we stop a while and rest.
For it's still a hundred yards to Mary Ann's.

(Sang)
It's still a hundred yards to Mary Ann's.

(Spoken with instrumental background)
Late that night the storm was gone,
They found him there at dawn.
He'd-a-made it but he just couldn't leave old Dan.
Yes, they found him there on the plains,
Hands froze to the reigns.
He was just a hundred yards form Mary Ann's.

(Sang)
He was just a hundred yards from Mary Ann's...

Ranchwife, you stold most of my list lol.

"Sarabeth" by Rascal Flatts
"Concrete Angel" and "God's Will" by Martina McBride
I'll wait for you" by Joe Nichols
And my number one tear jerker is, "Grandpa Told me So." by Kenny Chesney. When we were hunting last year at Hudson bay, we were just standing around my first deer, an old doe, and we turned the truck on (we got her on the forest fringe right by th truck, cause we hunted the forest all day lol) and that was the first song that was on. I was using all of grandpas stuff, his gun, binocs, everything (cept the suit cause Im bigger than he was lol) and it started to play on the radio. Choked me right up, cause only 30 seconds before, I sent a prayer up to the LORD asking him to deliver a message to grandpa to me.

I "talk" to grandpa every day, where we were most at home, in the pasture while I do my rounds, others that see think Im crazy but I keep on talking about the good tiems we had, and the things we done.

February 12, 2004 was the hardest day of my life. It was the first time that grandpa couldn't tell me what to say, what to do. We couldnt ever talk about when he was a kid, and I couldnt ever have him hug me tight again. During church he went into something like a coma, but not quite. I ran across Humboldt, and got there before mom and dad did (they had to find the other two in the basement for sunday school) and was in his room. The last words he said to anyone was, "Alex, make me proud, take care of the farm, and take me hunting on your first trip, get me the forest deer Ive always dreamed about". I said, Grandpa, Im going to do it, I have to go now, I have 4H curling, Ill talk to you tomorrow". When I threw the last stone, winning the bonspeil, I got a phone call, Grandpa had passed away at that moment. I couldnt move, couldnt say anything. All I can say is thank the LORD for good friends. They took me home, and were there the wholel time. They missed school trying to comfort me, they came to the wake and funeral, and they elped around the farm. These two (brother and sister, one oler nad one younger thanme, are the two best friends in the world.

That song has a lot of meaning to me. My mom never sang me any songs I can remember, but I remember my great grandma singing to me in german, I can remember some of the words, but not all. She gave me a prayer when I was born too, like the rest fo the family members. I never met one of my grandma's, and the grandma and grandpa I have left, mean more to me than life itself.

You know the song.."One More Day"?I don't know who sings it.I love that song, can't listen to the whole thing without wishing I could spend One more day with lots of people I've lost in my life

Like Judith Ava Maria :) Theres a Dr.s wife, from our area, shes originally from South Africa,oh my gosh, when she sings this I just dissolve, its sooo beautiful.

Dannyboy :!:

The Dance :(

Definitely the Wedding March and Amazing Grace.
Also music from many of the old musicals like Ezio Pinza singing "If I Loved You" in Carousel. Always need a box of Kleenex for all the old smaltzy musicals.

Yep, the Dance. They played that at my nephews funeral, never did think much about it before then.

How about, was it Daddy's Hands

The song that I saw bring the most tears in a wedding was when a group did a fantastic rendition of "Butterfly Kiss's"....

Mrs. Greg, It is done by diamond rio.

TY, FH, theyre really special to me, the first to call with some news, god or bad, and I sneak off to their place at least once a week for some milk and cookies
