What are you going to do

$6.00 US fuel it's already here. :cry:

Talked to a driver just yesterday, he hauled a piece of machinery to California, price there $6.30 a gallon. He said he bought just enough to get him back to Arizona where the price was $5.40/gal, I think he said.

Finally hauled my last load of grinder Alfalfa and topped off the tanks, $4.70/gal here in Colorado.

Far as this summer goes, I'm going to have to pass on the cost, as best as I can, to my dairy and feedlot customers. But I'll probably have to absorb some of the cost myself. If my customers go under I'll have to find new ones and they will probably be further down the road.
 
Did y'all know that fuel station owners have to pay a hefty insurance policy on each tanker of fuel the receive? To the tune of $400.00 for a 90+/- mile trip???

We've also read that fuel prices did not keep up with inflation rates, so that's another piece added to the puzzle-like jumble of reasons (not including excuses!) for escalating fuel prices. Hopefully the new or proposedd fuel pipelines and refineries will sail along through the massive eco-bureaucratic webs without the typical delays.

So far the most I have paid is $4.599 but when you fill up 12 dump trucks each morning it is still $4,500.00 each day.

I have a fuel surcharge in my haul rate but I'm sure we have lost work as people ( Honda is one of my big contracts - and they have stopped work on the complex they are building - said they will rethink the work after the election) are not going forward with many jobs.

We went from 560 new home septic systems in Henry county in 2006 to 3 in 2007 and so far only 5 in 2008 - - I know 560 was a lot in a county with about 40,000 homes but to go from that to 3 is a real eye opener. We had more new homes built in areas with city sewers but I keep an eye on the septic systems as we sell gravel for them.

The fuel cost is a big issue but I feel it is only one of the problems we are facing. Goverment has let a few monoplies control us and we need to break up the big oil - -- in the Jay county area we have many oil wells sitting idle as the refineries ( Rock Island was aa big one in Indianapolis) in the area were all shut down about 10 years ago and the crude oil would need to go to either the Chiago area or Cleveland and niether refinery has the capacity to handle any more oil. The operators at the Rock Island refinery said the regulations just got to where they could not stay in business.
 
The biggest monopoly our country has a problem with is the Federal Government. Just what has regulation added to the price of fuel? I've read that going to ultra low sulfur diesel has added to the cost of diesel $.60 to $.80 per gallon. No doubt similar expense is added to gasoline with all the different blends each metro city has to have for enviro reasons. This additional refining and blending also reduces refinery capacity. I almost forgot about taxes on finished product and excise tax on domestic crude production.

Maybe we need a windfall profit tax on the federal government.
 
When Gas hits $5.00 a gallon, the economy will drop out. The poor working class family's that keep the economic will just have to stay home and then they will go to the government. If the president was to go out today and stop ALL foreign aid, gas would go down to less than $1.00 a gallon and the economy would jump greatly. Now don't say that I'm intolerant or some stuff like that, but all the Arabs want is our money, which goes to the government, which pays off the terrorists, who want to kill us. If we were to cut them off, within 6 months they would come back to us begging for foreign aid. And the reason that diesel is so expensive now is that even though diesel is a by product of making gas, the gas companies have to double refine it to meet the EPA specs cause they think "global warming" is the worst thing since hitler.
 
Maybe you guys are quoting gas prices?

Diesel in Texas is around 4.49-4.69 range just about everywhere. Will be at $6.00 in a year or so.
 
Diesel in GA is @ $4.45 as of 2 days ago.

Haven't been back out into civilization since then to see if it's gone higher.

Kola, it sounds like your doin' what I'm doin', staying home, not going anywhere unless absolutely necessary, and when we do go somewhere, making lists to make sure all jobs are done. Did make a trip to town today, first time in 6 days, filled with fuel, $4.77. Manager told me it's now 10 cent discount for cash instead of the usual 4 cent, he wants to get away from the credit cards!

Kola, it sounds like your doin' what I'm doin', staying home, not going anywhere unless absolutely necessary, and when we do go somewhere, making lists to make sure all jobs are done. Did make a trip to town today, first time in 6 days, filled with fuel, $4.77. Manager told me it's now 10 cent discount for cash instead of the usual 4 cent, he wants to get away from the credit cards!

No, I've just never been one to run up and down the road just cause there happens to be a road there!!! :)

I'm one of those people who makes lists, in geographic order no less, of my stops/errands and I wait till I have A LIST...A BIG LIST...then I venture out....do EVERYTHING on my list in one shot and then pat myself on the back for being a smart gal!!!

I have been known to make a list that refers to another list!!! :shock: :shock: I know....I have issues :lol: :lol: :lol:

I can't function without a list, whether is cow vacc's that need to be bought, truck tractor parts to be picked up.....or which sale to hit first in the mall!!!!

I am an organized wreck!!! :wink: :wink:
 
I paid equivalent of 6.33/gal yesterday here in central BC, this is definately getting out of hand. I wonder if the speculators will ever get our calves to $6.00 a pound and put us back on a level playing field?
 
Local young fella had bought 200 head of good quality heifers to breed...His plans had been to AI these heifers- but he said now with the price of gas- and higher cost of semen due to freight costs- and the fact that he would have to drive 25 miles a trip to his pasture to check and breed them- pretty much ruled out the use of AI....
He had just bought several more little bulls he was going to let do the job....

We are running up and down the road less and staying home more on the weekends. When someone does go to town they have a very long list trying to fit everyones needs into one trip.
 
All this organization now taking place among us all.....surely can't hurt any of us!!!! :lol: :lol: :lol:
 
The market analyst I hear on the radio says the next 20 cents that the price of gas moves will be down. 3 reasons: a stronger US dollar, the historically seasonal highs are already in (Memorial Day weekend), and the powers-that-be are changing the rules on how specualtors can trade commodities. Thats not only good for crude oil but ag commodities as well. They want to get back to a more fundamentally-driven market that can't be swayed quite so much by the fund traders.
More good news...the first new US oil refinery in 30 years is on its way to being built in Union County, SD. It was on the ballot Tuesday and the voters approved the zoning for it.
