What do you need to Cross???

Northern Rancher said:
What types are I'D are good to cross into the U'S with if you drive. Do you need a birth certificate or is a photo I'D drivers licence enough.

I'd bring everything you got--you never know what one border guy will require and the other won't....Besides the pictures I saw you look a little shifty  :P

depends on the agent and the day, drivers license will work, but sometimes they want a BC too, our kids are too young for drivers so we alway take BC's. If the kids and I are going by ourselves, I alway write a letter and have it notarized that my husband knows where we are going and permission is given, I've had the border agents ask my kids if I'm really their Mom, and does Dad know where we're going! as if I'd take my kids if I were running away!!!!!!!!!!

We have to send our birth certificates away to get our passports and I'm not sure we'll get them back in time before we go. Complete bunch of B.S if you ask me!!!!

It's a good thing i stick around the desert as i have no documentation of any sort! My "hatching certificate" is says cracked. My drivers license has a horse endorsment and my passport won't allow me to leave sagebrush! The real question is why would ya wanta come down here (to L.A. no less), when ya could cool yer jets up there?

I thought as of last jan. you needed a pastport even to drive across the line?

They weakened the rule for car travel-- but I think you need a passport to enter by Air.....

You need passport only for air, until this summer.

NR, take your drivers licence and birth certificate. Both are needed. Any US Border Guard who lets you in with just a DL isn't doing his/her job. BC is needed to show country of birth.

I understand that you have to send the original BC in for a CDN passport. I cross the border fairly often, so I need my BC. Don't know when I am going to bite the bullet and give up my border privilages for a few months to send it away.

Make sure when you do send your passport stuff, you send it all by courier. Canada Post employees are continually getting in trouble with having sticky fingers.

When we went into Vancouver this last summer, we had to have passports...something about a new law, I spose it's the same all across the border????

You need a turbo charged deisel and a reinforced grille guard. Just go for it.

When I saw the title, "What does it take to Cross?" I thought crossbreeding and hybrid vigor was the subject of the question. My immediate thought was "two willing participants."

It does seem ironic that it takes a birth certificate to cross from Canada into the USA, but it is unnessessary to have one to become President.

NR, as was said before, you need your birth certificate and a photo id (preferably a driver's license) to cross the border. A passport makes things a whole lot easier though. Just a suggestion, but why don't you drive down to Saskatoon and apply for it instead of going through the mail. The trip would be worth it just for the time factor in getting your passport sooner. We just went in last week and applied for ours, we were in and out of the passport office in less than ten minutes. Just have all the information filled out on your applications and the necessary id. And you don't have to worry about anything getting lost in the mail. BTW, you don't have to send the original documents, just a photocopy but they have to be signed by your guarantor saying they are yours and you are you.

   How true it is!!!

It's an 8 hour drive to 'stoon lol. Well if I don't needd to send the originals won't be too bad. I'm gone too much coaching to take time to go down to city-too bad I got a Wholesale Sports gift certificate burning a hole in my pocket.

Its funny, the border North of us has a crooked fence and the cement posts now and then. We used to ride across without giving it much of a thought. Even now, doesn't appear to be any one around. BUT, I don't believe I would cross the border nowdays, We need a passport to go into Canada.
