What is a Brangus?

My link below says that brangus can do fine in the north country. If we kept them in a separate herd, I wouldn't mind crossing them on an angus based herd of cows. They have always intrigued me. I guess they are the best of mothers. They stay paired up well, and move out when you are working them also. So I have heard anyway.

What do you think the coldest temperature they could live comfotably in? is -40 celcus to cold for them? i bet there big years would freeze off, and that would be no good. Why do they have a hump? I googled it and it had no reasons for the hump. is it like a camels hump full of fat?

Brangus are a cross of 3/8 Brahman and 5/8 Angus. (I am pretty sure the percentages are right)

Angus x Brahman = F1

F1 x Brahman = 1/4 AN x 3/4 Brah of F2

F2 x Angus = Brangus
8) That is well said.BUT my version,Brangus=hard to ride

My brangus cattle winter just fine.

When i had some they did just fine as well as my Watusi bull and the Santa Gertudius. I run pretty much straight Angus now but that because I like them and they fit this environment. Run cattle you like to run. lifes to short to run cows you don't like.

most of the breeds id liek to have you cant find them around here so id have to move in order to find them which i think is really stupid, but what can yea do?

So what kind of cattle would you like to run?

Most anything can be found right in the Classifieds in the good old Western Depressor. That's where I found the ad for the Tuli cattle a couple of weeks ago.

good ol' highlands! i think those would be the coolest cows ever! haha liek that song highland steer by Corb lund! and long horns, they aint hard to find but mom and dad dont want them, but ill buy my own, ill have a longhorn highland herd with some Florida crackers thrown in :P :P

First you worry about Brangus handling the cold.

Next it's cause nothing is "purebred".

How are Florida Crackers going to handle the cold?

And then you want to Cross breed with Highland.

Are you drinking something mixed with youe Coke? :???:

You must be allergic to money my uncle went the highland route now he's on the poorboy road. When everyone else was getting 1.50 for 400# calves he was lucky to get 80 cents for them and 400 pounds in a highlander is a yearling.

theres nothing in my coke, i hope. i am alergic to money actuly, my hands get all swollen and blotchy :-) no im kidding, but those are my 3 favorite breeds, and thats what i want!i just have this huge expensive heated barn with like florida climate and my cows can live in there! oh wait that would have to invole me being rich! well scratch that! i guess ill have to stick with the boring old breeds. What do you recmend for a good starting breed? but i want something other than, Herefords, Simmintals, Charolias, Angus! because i want my own cows, different breed than my folks! any suggestions?

Shorthorn :) Should always start with an old basic..Shorthorn,Herfs,Angus,IMHO. Maines are also a nice breed if you want something different :) If you want to cross,an Angus is always a nice bull
