Gregs brother raises Dashaunds[sp}Last week one of thier numerous females had a litter of six puppies.BEFORE they were even born they were sold. They sell these dang dogs anywhere between $1200-$1600 a piece

What I'm saying how crazy are we,ranchers? They don't have to fence numerous quarters of land, rope and treat a calf, try getting a herd of broken out cows in ect, ect.Oh and has ANY of you ever sold a calf BEFORE it was born for $1600.

If we truly are doing it to make a living, don't you think our brains would be smart enough to raise Dashaunds??

I guess whoever said we were a smart breed :?

yup purebred dogs sell for alot :) But even little muttlies are going for crazy prices. I mean Labradoodles are $2500.00 at the moment. I would die first before I put out that kind of cash for a mutt. A guy I know sells body guard dogs. 30,000 grand a pop! I'm not kiddin ya! When I was still showing my German Pinschers, pups were going for 800.00 spayed or neutered. Glad I got out of the purebred dog game though. Alot of work. And dog shows every weekend got to be a pain in the tooshie.....

One nice thing about the size of the dogs compared to cattle for me is that I wouldn't get run over when working with them!!! I might get tripped up but not bulldozed over!!!

my neighbors Jack and Kaylene, raises dogs, they have several breeds. weiner dogs and Jack Russel terriers are two of them............

I keep telling them to cross the two breeds so Kaylene can walk "Jacks weiner" down the street!!!

A friend of mine has a cat that had 9 kittens. She was able to give away all but 4 so she took them to a pet store and they offered her $150 a piece for them. She is now on a quest to find more pregnant strays.

Makes you wonder if we are in the right business.

I have been looking for a Rhodesian Ridgeback as they were always my favourite 'farm mutt',but the cheapest I have been quoted is $1000,oo for a non registered female. When we bred Border Collies as working dogs, the average price we recieved for a certified working pup, was $350.00, after vaccinations and sheepdog association certification, that left little real term profit!

We just noticed recently that our old dog Scarlett appeared to be in a "family" way. This was last week, and today she had pups. They are down in a cave that she dug so we have not yet been able to see the results. Scarlett is half German Shepard and half Rotweiller. The daddy about has to be Ringo, our oldest son's Blue Heeler. Not sure what kind of a puppy concoction we will wind up with, but they will sure be available for any Heinz 57 fans. :???:  :?

Old timer told me that if you want to make money farming grow something that people don't really need .........

You will probably get the herd-en-ist sons of guns this side of the tumbleweeds! 3 herding breeds in one pooch! I wonder.....

Boy, do we have something that nobody needs. :-) And yet, if someone really wanted a German Shepard-Rotweiller-Blue Heeler cross pup, where in the world else would you go to find one. :???: :? :-)

Get on the net and toot them as a special NEW breed, say one time only offer at $800 a piece, you just may be real surprised. Look at whats happening with the labradoodle....ridiculous

At least when we spend good money for a border collie,he works for us,not just runnin around piddling all over the floor and nippin friends that walk in the door :!:

I can see it now. The replacement for the 'Hangin' Tree" cowdogs.

Soapweeds" Hang yourself " cowdogs, Will not only load cows in trailer but chase them right out thru the front. They will herd ,protect and eat one cow a day.

This will require Soap to get a new high speed digital camera to post pictures of Peachy and Saddle tramp racing to turn the herd or just plain catch up with the herd and get the gates open before the cows do it for them.

The only question is which way will the Arrow be pointing when those pups break loose. :cowboy:

When they get to chewing on those horses every waking moment Soapweed can relive his bronc twisting days. I bet they'd be tough son of a guns though-run bears out of your camp at night lol.

Actually, I think those have a chance of being good dogs for whatever you would want to use them for. I like all three breeds. Ole' Scarlett might be smarter than Soapweed gives her credit for.
After all, if you can only do one thing, do it well. :P

Anyhow Soap, take pictures of them and post them so we can keep up with how they are looking. Would really be fun to watch them grow.
If we didn't have 2 dogs I know we would be interested in getting one.

My kids have a german shepherd puppie that is smart as a fox. I've thought about making a cow dog out of her(but I don't like cow dogs). One kid of mine has her (after a couple afternoons work) sitting, laying down, fetching, and waiting to fetch till told . The kids take a baseball bat, bat the ball, wait till it bounces out of site and then tell her to go get it. She'll come right back with the ball and drop it at their feet. The pup is about 5 mos old.
