We stumbled on discounted tickets to the NFR, leave on Wednesday, return on Monday. I got the ole-stick-in-the-mud talked into going.

Now Denny mentioned that 6" of snow is predicted for next week in his area and I got an e-mail from someone by Red Lodge who mentioned snow. We would be right about in the middle of these guys.

I can usually get the best weather forcast right here on ranchers.net. So what's up? Snow next week?

About all I've heard about is some flurries this weekend (Sun and Mon)- A cold front is moving in with lower temps (highs in 20's & 30's- lows in the 0 to 10's range)- but not supposed to be packing much moisture....They were thinking that the snow that is in ND headed toward Denny might slip back on us- but it hasn't happened...

Cooler here today- but still nice - about 35 degrees with little wind...

Wish I was going with you- It is a fun trip- especially if you are a people watcher, because there are herds of them --but we won't be going this year- I do have a daughter going down with some of her friends- think she's staying at the Mirage....Are you going with the Miles City group?

.LONG TERM...SATURDAY NIGHT THROUGH THURSDAY... THE +PNA PATTERN OF THE LAST 7-10 DAYS FINALLY BREAKS DOWN THIS WEEKEND. THE END RESULT OF THIS PATTERN CHANGE WILL BE MORE OF A BROAD TROUGH ACROSS THE WESTERN AND CENTRAL CONUS. THIS CHANGE IN THE PATTERN WILL UNDOUBTEDLY LEAD TO COLDER WEATHER ACROSS NORTHEAST MONTANA. POTENTIAL FOR SOME SNOW LATE IN THE WEEKEND AND NEXT WEEK...BUT CONFIDENCE IN THE DETAILS ON ANY SHORTWAVES IS STILL SLIM. THIS TYPE OF PATTERN CHANGE COULD LEAD TO A FEW OPPORTUNITIES FOR SOME SNOW...BUT COULD ALSO LEAD TO LITTLE OR NO SNOW ACROSS THE AREA. PER THE HPC MEDIUM RANGE DISCUSSION THERE SEEMS TO BE NO CLEAR SIGNAL POINTING TO WHICH NEW PATTERN WE WILL TRANSITION TO FOR THE MEDIUM RANGE PERIOD...AND AGREE WITH THIS LINE OF THINKING. THERE IS ALSO SOME AGREEMENT THAT THERE WILL BE SOME MID LEVEL RIDGING TO OUR NORTH ACROSS THE CANADIAN PRAIRIE BY THE MIDDLE OF NEXT WEEK. IT LOOKS LIKE THE MAIN STORM TRACK SHOULD REMAIN FAR ENOUGH TO OUR SOUTH TO SPARE THE REGION FROM ANY MAJOR SNOWFALLS. MODELS ARE CONSISTENT ENOUGH ON THE IDEA OF THE COLDER AIR THAT IN GOOD COORDINATION WITH SURROUNDING WFO/S PLAN TO LOWER TEMPERATURES CONSIDERABLY. PLAN TO GO BETWEEN THE HIGH END OF ENSEMBLE GUIDANCE AND CLIMO WHICH WILL MEAN TRIMMING BACK TEMPERATURES BY 5 TO 10 DEGREES MOST PERIODS. THIS LEAVES THE DOOR OPEN FOR LATER SHIFTS TO DROP TEMPERATURES FURTHER IF LATER RUNS CONTINUE TO SUPPORT THIS MAJOR CHANGE IN THE PATTERN.

Thanks for the report, OT.

This is a charter out of Bismark, so we will leave from there and fly non-stop to Vegas.

We have never gone before, so this is a real treat unless the weather turns off bad. Then we worry because we aren't here. But we have someone very dependable watching things.

It is so hard to get away.

The weather they were talking for us they thought would come from the south. You had better go and have some diserved fun and remember what Happen's in Vegas stay's in Vegas. Now make sure you go to Fremont Street that's where we stay when we go I like to play BlackJack ALOT and the Golden Gate on the corner of Fremont across from the Plaza is my favorite spot.

Maybe next year we could all meet in Vegas for the finals and a Ranchers Net Party I would make it for sure.

I REALLY LIKE VEGAS...We go once or twice a year...But 3 days at a time is plenty...

I have never been there. My husband was there once, he was with a friend who was hauling horses from Montana to Prescott, AZ to breed to a grandson of Driftwood Ike.

He called and said, "they sure didn't ruin any good country putting this town here." Meaning, it was AWFUL country.

But I am looking foreward to it. Very much.

Thanks for the tip, Denny. I wrote it down. I have never played Black Jack except on tigergaming.net. Do you think they play the same basic way at Vegas? If so, I might try my hand...

FH, Denny is right on Fremont Street. We love to stay downtown. It is more laid back there than the strip. Have a great time!!!!

One thing about trips to Vegas and the NFR- I enjoy them while there if it is only for 4-5 days- then I'm ready to get out of the zoo of people- and it makes me thankful to live in an area where when we get 200 people at a basketball game we have a crowd....Makes home country seem so much nicer.....

Well, OT, you sound just like the guy I live with. He thinks there are too many people at the Black Hills Stock Show or the NILE.

Actually, more than 3 people is a crowd in his book.

Is the Stardust on the strip? I have no idea about anything.
Just a babe in the woods.

Stardust is on the main strip. You can take a bus or taxi downtown. Just remember if you see a casino in the distance and you think you can walk to it, beware they are farther away than you think. There are buses that run the main strip also.

Get a hold of the travel agent and rent a car.You can rent a car and drive where ever and its not that bad as the traffic does'nt move real fast.Go to Cowboy Christmas if you like to shop it's on your way to the Thomas and Mack at the convention center lots of neat stuff even if you dont buy anything.Cowtown Boots is across the street they will have a big tent set up outside I bought some nice shirts there quite cheap[ when we were there. You will go broke paying cab fairs if you want to do much. you can run out to lake mead and Hoover Dam. If you go west of town there is Red Rock Canyon there are Wild Horses and Donkey's there. When we went they had the Bucking Stock Sale during the day at the Thomas and Mack center but my wife would'nt go so we did'nt.

Blackjack is played the same as on the computer. Most people you play with are willing to help if you have questions.

Have a Great time.

P.S. If you rent a car don't buy there B.s. insurance your regular car Insurance generally will cover if you have trouble also look over the car for ANY damage and write it down on their little slip knicks, chips scratches or whatever my wife does that and when we turn our cars back in we have no troubles. Also fill it up with gas before you take it back they charge about double if they fill them.

Now I wanna go :cry2: :cry2:

Hey FH,

Are you folks going with anyone? I would say that is the best way to do the first trip, go with someone that has been there. Cowboy Christmas is worth just walking through, but I am a guy that likes to walk thru and look, So it may be a different trip for you two, LOL.

I will happen to be in town for a meeting Dec 6-9. Not sure of the iternerary though. Two or three years ago we were there for a meeting to. We went to the Gold Coast and watched the NFR on the big screen. The thought was we hadn't seen each other in quite awhile, seen lots of rodeo's, so it was a good chance to visit and see the Rodeo to,

Have fun,

PPRM

There is a bunch from here that are going. They have had their tickets for quite awhile but it is on the same charter. Didn't want to crash their party but they seem really excited that we are going. :???:

And our daughter and new son-in-law have decided to go too. Our daughter has been there before. But I'm still happy to have your input, and thanks a bunch.

I am not able to walk a whole lot, for the same reason I can't ride much anymore: Bad Knees. Yet, I don't want to keep eveyone else from doing what they want. (I have always hated a party pooper. )

Get a motorized cart........Of course, I am the guy that won't spend a dime gambling, but loves to go thru the casino' to see the sights. There's a lot to see. I am glad you folks have a group to go with, I think in a larger group there tends to be natural splits for the folks on the go and those that like to sit and visit more....

Anyway, have a blast!

Since feeder mentioned taxis- another piece of advice- just pull down your hat, close your eyes, and hang on til you get to where you're going....Last one I had when we were leaving town was wearing a turban or sheet or something around his head, and I swear he had to be Osama's brother as many times as he tried to commit suicide and take me with him before we got to the airport......Usually I don't like flying (commercial)- but that time the airplane seemed a lot safer than that cab.......

Ot, if you would have opened your eyes you would have been able to pull his turbin away from his eyes!!!! Know what you mean about the taxis, I would hate to be pregnant and ride in one. Don't think the baby would take the ride very good.

We have friends that go every year (the folks we lease the rangeground from). We went one year, it was fun and an experience but I don't care to go back (of course I'm a stick in the mud like your hubby :) ). We were disappointed about the rodeo, seems like they rush through it just to get you back out to the casinos :???: My only gambling was with a roll of nickels :p lasted me an hour or so  You'll have fun!
There are 8 of them going in a group this year, 6 went last year and it was cheaper to hire a limo than two taxis last year. So the limo that will meet them this year is supposed to have a fifth of Crown Royal, a 6 packs of Coors Light, and a 6 pack of Ginger Ale :!:
