There is a horse sale coming up in Sheridan Wyoming and
I can't seem to find any info on it. I think it was what used to
be the Sugar Bars Classic Horse Sale, but they must have renamed
it or I'm mistaken. It would be held this month, I think.

Thanks in advance for your help.

I don't know anything about the horse sale in Sheridan but here's one you could go to.

The Jamison horse sale is comparable to the most current bull stud catalog. Shiny, glossy, excellent pictures but just wait till you get home with your purchase

FH, you may as well make a weekend out of it. Weaver's sale is in Great Falls on Sat. then the Suger Bars Legacy sale in Sheridan on Sunday http://www.sugarbarslegacy.com/

Or you can hit this sale at Winnet, west of Jordan on Sunday on your way back.

That is what I was looking for ranch hand. Thanks.

srd, we are good friends with the Weavers, but they have
no using geldings for sale. Thanks for the idea, tho.
They have a mare I'd dearly love to have. Lot 156.
I know alot about that stud and its darn good.

Well, it took 10 minutes for the Sugar Bars Legacy catalog to download, but it was well worth the wait. Makes me wanna make a road trip. We were at a production sale yesterday 20 miles west of us for the Ruzicka family Ranch and consignors. I was brand inspecting the sale, and ended up having to come home and get the trailer, bought 3 fillies and a colt.

I was pretty happy to get this little gal:

And this filly too:

Really wanted this colt, but he went way out of my price range. Out of the same stud as the buckskin filly and their dams were closely bred:

Don't have a pic of the other bay colt and filly, so when I take some this week I'll post them, too.

How are they bred?

Well it is not that complicated but as a bovine guy I think I'll defer to an equine person for the finer details. The short version is it takes a boy horse and a girl horse.

per it is a little more complicated then that.

It goes more like "the Stud was a grandson to Five minutes to Midnight and the Dam was out of Oklahoma by truck". :D

And we're off to a good morning of laughs!

The bay filly is out of a mare with "Especially Smart Peppy" as her sire, with Sugar Canoe and Sailing Sugar Foot on the dam's side. So the mare has Peppy San Badger and Smart Little Lena on her top side, and lots of Sugar Bars on the bottom. The stud is High Brown San Peppy, a dun who has Mr San Peppy, Doc Bar and Doc O'Lena on his papers.

The buckskin is a little different. She's out of a buckskin stud called Tuf Pepper Chex, having Docs Pepper Bar, Peppy San, Pima Country and Bueno Chex on his papers. All the colts in the sale out of him had big hips and lots of muscle. Her dam has Salty Charge and Two-Eyed Jack on her papers, as well as the controversial Impressive. I don't really mind though, since she's most likely going to be a saddle horse all her life, no show strings around this place. A guy I know to the west of us has 2 geldings out of this same mare, and he can't say enough about them. The Salty Charge son that's in this mare's pedigree, "Country Charge", used to belong to a retired brand inspector I know real well, and threw alot of good using horses for them over the years.

The other 2 bays we bought are out of a black stud I really like. He's only about 14.2, but he weighs in around 1250 lbs. He is stout and full of muscle. He actually reminds me of that pic of Sugar Bars on the Legacy Sale catalog. Has that same head with the big full jaw and lots of space between the ears, and not empty air-space either. All the colts at the sale out of him were the quietest babies in the barn. My kids wanted all of 'em b/c they could hug them and scratch them from head to toe. Kinda wish I would have bought another 1 or 2 out of him. I've seen some real good rope horses off of him, and even some chuckwagon horses too. His name is Lee Das Bar, with Pepnitas Gold, Kilobar San, Two-Eyed Jack, Joe Reed and Sugar Bars all in his blood.

Anyway, I'm finishing my tea then me and the kids are off to brand inspect some yearlings on a big pasture west of us. Have a great day all,

PC.
