MONTGOMERY, Ala. — An Alabama law firm claims in a lawsuit that Taco Bell is using false advertising when it refers to using "seasoned ground beef" or "seasoned beef" in its products.

The meat mixture sold by Taco Bell restaurants contains binders and extenders and does not meet the minimum requirements set by the U.S. Department of Agriculture to be labeled as "beef," according to the legal complaint.

The class-action lawsuit was filed Friday in federal court in the Central District of California by the Montgomery law firm Beasley, Allen, Crow, Methvin, Portis & Miles.

Attorney Dee Miles said attorneys had Taco Bell's "meat mixture" tested and found it contained less that 35 percent beef.

Miles said the lawsuit does not seek monetary damages, but asks the court to order Taco Bell to be honest in its advertising.

"We are asking that they stop saying that they are selling beef," Miles said.

Irvine, Calif.-based Taco Bell spokesman Rob Poetsch (PAYCH) said the company denies that its advertising is misleading.

"Taco Bell prides itself on serving high quality Mexican inspired food with great value. We're happy that the millions of customers we serve every week agree," Poetsch said. He said the company would "vigorously defend the suit."

The lawsuit says that Taco Bell's "seasoned beef" contains other ingredients, including water, wheat oats, soy lecithin, maltodrextrin, anti-dusting agent and modified corn starch.

:???: While Taco Bell has never been a favorite of mine, It just fell off of my choice for fast food. I wonder how a guy should order anti-dusting agent? Rare or well done?

I thought the Taco and Chinese joints all used ground stray cats and dogs for meat :???:  :P

I remember years back when the Taco joint in Bozeman got shut down for doing just that-- and have had a tough time eating Mexican or Chinese since...

If the Chinese joints were butchering stray dogs they wouldn't be feeding them to some unappreciative round eye to replace cheap beef. They would invite all their best friends an impress them with a banquet.

What do you think the other fast food places have in their "meat mixture". Almost all the fast food chains in North America get their ground from the same places, and almost all of it goes through the same process.

How much more beef would be required to meet demand, if our beef organizations lobbied them to use 100% beef, instead of 35% beef, and actually won?

I did like Taco Bell before I read this. It was one of those places that whoever was in town could go to and get a cheap supper to bring home for a little change of pace. No, its not that great, but it is what it is. We liked it though before reading this.
The "Hostile Native" is just as much of a BEEF advocate as I am and she said she won't go there anymore. Sometimes people look at us funny, but we won't even knowingly watch tv shows with actors who are vegetarians. The way we see it is, if they won't support our business and lifestyle, we won't support theirs.
I remember years ago before the laws were changed, I would haul a lot of cattle to Ladonia, Texas. At that time it didn't matter, and that's where people would take their "downer" cattle or whatever wouldn't live long enough to run through a sale. Every time I would pull into the yard there, the lot was full of refer trailers with "McDonalds" written on the side. The animals people took there were the ones that were so bad that even they wouldn't eat the meat. The way I saw it was, if the folks that raised it won't eat it, I sure as heck won't.
Thanks for the article H.

Taco Bell just fell off my list of things to do... Guess I'll be going to Arby's where a piece of roast beef at least looks like it might be such.

Some of the best beef I've eaten lately has been the burgers and steaks at Boston Pizza. We take the hockey teams there for pregame meals-fast food places like McDonalds are off limits to athletes.

Thataway to teach diversity NR. Take a Canadian hockey team to eat a Boston pizza cooked by an illegal alien using argentenian beef in a restaraunt owned by a black man who borrowed his start up from a chinese guy. Whataguy you are NR :D

Actually I'm pretty sure it's Canadian beef-cooked by a Canadian cook served to us by our neighbor's daughter lol. All I know is that my teams don't get sick when they eat there. Nothing like taking a team of puking teenagers on a three day 1200 mile road trip.

Hard to get a straight answer but BP does have Canadian beef burgers on their menu ,not sure if they only serve Canadian beef though .

You are better off going to a mom and pop diner than a big chain fast food joint .

We don't have a taco bell in RD, thankfully .

I do the Mom and Pops too but a tour bus full is a different deal-BP lets us preorder and we can be in and out fairly quickly and on to our next game. I could do a pretty good travelers guide as to where to eat come to think of it-some of the best Chinese food is in the Hussar Cafe or the little Aisian ladies place in Scobey, Montana. I had a great steak in a little place halfway between Buffalo and Ten Sleep Wyoming, and the Bozeman Trail in Buffalo and one you could of beat a coyote to death with in Plentywood, Montana. and the Holiday Inn in Bozeman lol. Famous Dave's BBQ is pretty good in Bozeman though.

Do you ever watch that show Diners Drive Ins and Dives NR ? Another good one is Man vrs Food . I would love to try the food at most of those places ,especially the ones in the south ...YUM ...

The BP's in RD are not that good ,but there are a few really good ones elsewhere and hubby will eat at them if he is working near . I don't consider BP a fast food joint really, especially for their prices lol .
