IT'S SNOWING!!! :D So far we've gotten about 10 inches, and it's still coming down. It's only 15 degrees though . More snow may be on the way for next week! HOORAY! :D

Trying to find my way to the cows this morning :-). It really wasn't bad since the wind bared a little ground off of the high knobs. The worst is when the ground is covered in snow and it's foggy.

The other permittee ran some hereford bulls last summer. So far we've only had one. She should be a big girl come fall :D .

Those do look like good calves. Looks like they are handling the winter wonder land good. We have some of the white gold fallin here tonight. Been trying all day, had some rain this morning that froze every thing down. And of course the stinking wind is blowing 25-30 mph  Which gets us a nice blizzard warning  They have said we could get possibly 10 inches tonight and mid day friday.

It's a mixed blessing. As dry as it was getting, the snow is welcome, although it may come at a price... I'm hoping not since the cattle were in good shape going into bad weather. I'm watching the Denver news, and am really concerned about you Colorado folks. Although these storms are typical this time of year, it doesn't make it any easier on man or beast. Hope people were prepared. Keep us updated and stay safe! :D

Thanks for the concern  . I hate watching the Denver news all they care about is the Denver area and the ski areas :x . I would have loved to get the snow they had this moring. It was a wet heavy snow not the light fluffy stuff that we are getting to night would have done more good for the moisture :? . The wind is still blowing and its still coming down pretty good right now. As of 12:00am I think we might have 6 inches maybe more. I had to put two calves in the barn that where just born about 30 minutes apart. But just got in from checking them and they are both sucking and taking a nap.

Yep, red ear tags generally mean the kiss of death though . My cattle put me through college debt-free, but now that I have them as part of my compensation, they're a disaster! If anything dies or aborts, you can bet it's mine :x. My livestock enterprise does help at tax time though .

If it's white gold I should be richer than my bank account indicates :(
Our heifers are just starting to calf - 3 weeks ahead of the cows and we don't have a square inch clear of the winter snow pack yet. It was -24C here yesterday morning although it's up to -10C today. I shouldn't grumble because it's nice to have the moisture but a little warming would be nice too. It'll take a while to move all this snow.
Drifts in the yearlings corral.

Sitting on the fence - drifts on north side are 8 feet+ it's OK I don't need to go out that way for a while anyway.

Getting tired of drifted in tracks - it's so hard now you can drive on top in places.

Feeding grounds, careful not to tip the tractor driving over the ridges!

Good times! A few years ago we were buried in snow most of March into April. We cleared the ground like you to feed in/provide a place for them to rest. When it finally melted, the calves went bananas! They didn't know life existed out of their plowed runs . The ran and played on the newly opened ground once they figured out they could. That same spring we'd bought a new horse. He came in March, and once the snow started melting in April, he freaked out at all of the boulders we have. Poor thing had never seen the ground for the first two months he lived here .

Snowed about 8 inches here, but it's hard to tell with the way the wind has blown. I'm thankful I only had to put 1 cow in the barn that calved just before dark, anything else born would have been flash frozen. Just 5 above this morning with a 40 mph wind, that's -45F windchill.

That being said I'll take the moisture when ever we can get it.
