Started raining last night after a damn foggy day yesterday. Now we ve got about a 1/2 sheet of ice everywhere. Now its started raining quite heavily out. wierd weather for this time of year around here. Good day to stay off the roads!

We're getting Washington state weather-- foggy, low clouds, showers all day yesterday, last night and again off and on today-- and still only got about .04- but everything is mud from the snow we had all melting and the rain...Temp yesterday was near 60- could break records today with near 70's...

Love the temps- but kind of hard to do anything in the mud...Folks are having to cancel shippings because they can't get trucks in-- worked one bunch of calves yesterday and the alleyways were pure slop- Grandma made me take my clothes off in the porchway so she could throw them in the washer...Almost too hot for the carharts tho...

Supposed to cool down a little later in the week- don't know if its going to be cold enough to get trucks in on the frost tho in some places...Cows are loving it tho.....

In 2000 we got an inch of ice here and it stayed on a week or two. People were setting dozers off in the road trying to get a path to the cows to feed hay. Dozers would slide down the hill the directions the cleats were(sideways) . The dozers never marked the black top where they went down the road. We had chains all the way around (ice breaker) on 4wheel drives with a round bale in the back and you still couldn't stay out of the ditch. Lots and lots of town folk backed out of the garage on a little hill and slid the rig until they came to a rest on a tree somewhere. Several older folks got hurt feeding . Lots of cows did the splits and busted. It was awful! It was about as bad as anyone around here had ever seen . I wish I had pictures. You just couldn't believe it without seeing it.

I been workin' with colts and it's sure easy to sweat. Might have to take my longhandles off!

I'm glad I'm not on the "wet" side of Washington. Sounds like they having a heck of a time with this weather. It's been wet here for the last couple days, but they say it's supposed to get nice the rest of the week. Nice meaning no rain.

Well we have had the rainiest fall in many years. Not huge amounts of rain, just day after day with light showers. Just the right kind of weather to make the pastures and yards turn into a muddy soup.

Hate to leave the cows in one place too long because of the mud, but I hate just as much to move them into another field because they will churn it all up brfore too long as well.

Combines are getting stuck in the soybean fields. I used my 4 wheel drive more than I ever have before cutting soys.

Only consolation is that the yields sure are there this fall. Neighbour had Dekalb corn next door that went 208 bu. Never happened before around here. This is 135 bu. country.

MR,we're mirroring you...scary driving to work this morning on thick fog and inches of frozen rain. But yes there were still idiots passing me :? Fogs settled in again tonight, and just starting to rain again.

Woke up to ice this morning, but it wasn't too bad. It warmed up when the fog moved in, fog was thick as pea soup all day. Now the temp is starting to drop, and it's drizzling a bit, so the roads should be sweet in a little while. Temp was supposed to get to 10 C today, barely made it to 1 C. It'll be interesting tomorrow morning!

JB I wouldn't get carried away with the long handles, weather always changes in SD. I bet those colts wouldn't work the same if you changed clothes. :)

have a cold one

We've got the same thing MB Rancher. The dogs couldn't even walk on our lane this morning! They looked like little old ladies tottering around. Even in the corrals, the dirt was coated in it, and if you didn't walk on the straw there was a good chance at going arse over teakettle, as my Mom used to say

Apparently south of us it warmed up and turned to rain, but we never got above freezing, so everything's still coated. Oh well, what would the start of winter be without the twines all frozen into the bales, eh?

Good day to stay home and make perogies. 8)
